Tuesday Treat: And Oh What a Treat!

27th April we went to Tyrrell’s Wood, an ancient woodland managed by Woodland Trust. We’ve been there many times, could walk the route blindfolded. So this time we went a different way. Oh and how glad I am that we did!

Lady’s Smock formed huge spreads along the lanes: 27 April 2021
Cowslips… in abundance. Everywhere: 27 April 2021
A darker yellow, the flowers all to one side, these must be oxlips: 27 April 2021
And on alongside a footpath, a fritillary. Just one. They are rare in the wild: 27 April 2021
Cherry blossom, needs no words to describe: 27 April 2021
And apple: 27 April 2021
27 April 2021
The last of the blackthorn? Or is it bullace? 27 April 2021
Bluebells, the mark of an English woodland, were scarce: 27 April 2021
And tumbling down a bank, primroses: 27 April 2021
Water Crowfoot: 27 April 2021
Dandelions, dog’s mercury and violets cluster around a tree: 27 April 2021
Forget-me-not (and who could): 27 April 2021
Ground ivy (in places it grew mixed with the forget-me-nots): 27 April 2021

There was more, but they were more common and we’ll encounter them for a month or so more in every place we go. Hope you’ve enjoyed these as much as I did in finding them.

Count me in

16 Oct 2020

May the saints bless you, Sammi and hold you safely.

Why? Well just look at the word she’s given us! Solitudinarian.

I love you, Sammi, for that word is right up my street.

Well, not my actual street cos I don’t live up a street, I live in a quiet court, entirely off the thoroughfare. No one knows I am there.

Me and myself, all on my ownsome. It’s awesome, it’s wonderful. No neighbours except for the gulls. No kids to terrorise me with their din.

Reclusive? Count me in.

90 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Solitudinarian.

Sunday Picture Post: This Green and Pleasant Land

Let me take you back to 27th April. Two buses take us (via Norwich) to Long Stratton, a small town built “along” a Roman road. We’re heading to Tyrrell’s Wood, an ancient woodland managed by Woodland Trust. We’ve been there several times on our fungi hunts. But this time we’re going the long way round, which is mostly off-road walking.

The footpath out of town: 27 April 2021
All-day Breakfast: 27 April 2021
Beautiful, the English lanes in spring: 27 April 2021
Another footpath takes us across country: 27 April 2021
A young elm in flower: 27 April 2021
Another lane? No, our footpath follows a private road that leads to a farm: 27 April 2021
Heading now to Wood Green, a hamlet anciently named for Tyrrell’s Wood: 27 April 2021
Can’t resist taking photos of gates; 27 April 2021
And into the woods: 27 April 2021
On the ancient forest edge: 27 April 2021
Managed woodlands have established areas and those of new growth: 27 April 2021
27 April 2021

I could fill the page with so many more trees. But 12 pics I think is enough. See Tuesday Treat for the flowers we met on the way. And oh, what treats they were. Hope you’ve enjoyed

Out Riding Yarmouth Rodes

3 May 2021

First to explain Yarmouth Rodes: this is the sea between the beach and Scroby Sands where ships wait for the return of the tide to enter the harbour. And that’s what I thought this ship was doing (it being low tide). I was most surprised to see what looks like dredging equipment. Or is it a fairground ride?

Whatever its purpose of presence, the photo qualifies for Up Close, another title achieved from the list provided for #2021picoftheweek provided by Maria Antonia.

You don’t think it’s up close? Here’s the first photo I took. It’s the ship on the right.

Never a Song

Crimson’s Creative Challenge 130

Drifting along
I’ve lost my song
I fell from a bird
Now I’ll never be heard
Where are I going?
Where does the stream take me?
To new life, to death?
To a reconnection?
No, my bird is gone
Now never no song

Green Hills and Vales

April 22nd. The day arrives for our annual return to our childhood home, to the woods where I played Robin Hood and Sir Ivanhoe, where I learned the names of wild flowers. And from the woods a walk along Marriotts Way into Norwich for the bus back to Great Yarmouth on the North Sea coast.

Please, put on your hikers and come along with me.

Of course there were flowers seen along the way. I’ll be showing you a selection on Tuesday.

On Beltane Eve

Wayward! Wayward? That’s what they said.
Wayward, because I wouldn’t follow where they led.
Wayward, because I took a different route.
Wayward, as if I were a woodland brute.
Wayward, because I walked a different way.
Wayward! And now I wait for break of day
When the black-hooded man must come for me.
But better hanged than burned in their god-spelled glee.
Wayward, I celebrate the birth of Earth again
On this today, the Eve of Beltane

77 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Prompt: Wayward
