Learning to Fly: The Spinner’s Game Continues by Crispina Kemp My rating: 5 of 5 stars I read an early version of Learning to Fly and loved it. I’ve also read all the previous Spinner’s Game books, but this isn’t necessary and first time readers can easily jump in here. I’ve always considered myself a […]
Learning to Fly — Lauren Willmore

Old man? But he would be old if he had lived; he was older than me.
“I’ll be waiting for you right here,” he said every time we parted. “Even if I die, I shall still wait here for you.” And me, the callous bitch, married his brother within a year.
Thirty years since I’ve been here, his brother now joined him in death. And what did I expect to find? His ghost? No, just this carving, done as a self-portrait he’d said.

Welcome to my weekly challenge—open to all—just for FUN, FUN, FUN
Here’s how it works:
Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE
Here are some suggestions:
You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:
If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)
Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN
Spring has definitely arrived in the Yare Valley…. enjoy

Hope you enjoyed this little taste of spring. More next week
Monday is usually my day for answering Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt but this week I answered it straight into the comments. Which frees up today for something… different.

You’d think with living at the mouth of the Yare (Yarmouth) I’d have enough of that river. But no. Early on 15th April, despite an unfavourable weather forecast, we catch the bus to Norwich and get off at the outskirts to walk a way along the River Yare.

Aren’t you glad cameras don’t capture smells!

Hope you’ve enjoyed our walk. By the time we get back to the bus route it’s 10 miles, the sun has come out and my feet are sore.
For Tuesday Treat I’ll show you the flowers seen on this walk. But before that, breaking habit, Monday I’m gonna treat you to birds!

Here’s the seat where I usually rest when I gain this stage of my walk. But not this time. The flooding earlier in the year has not yet receded, turning the woodland floor to glass.

“Guess nobody lives here anymore.”
“But this is the right address.”
“Yea, and no one’s used those steps in many a year. Tell me again what he looked like.”
“Old. Gnarled.”
“And green?”
“What’re you implying?”
“A short little cobbler, was he?”
“A cobbler, yes, that’s why I’m here.”
“I think you’ve been tricked by a leprechaun. Let’s get out of here. Quick!”
“A-ah, too late.”
“Run!”
“Can’t, I’m stuck.”
