Tuesday Treat: Winter Dunes

We don’t expect to find much of interest in winter on the dunes, swept by salt-laden winds. Yet I did find a few subjects for my lens.

In a sheltered spot…

20 December 2021

It’s a succulent, but I’m not sure what

20 December 2021

Yay! Fungi

20 December 2021

20 December 2021

And lichen, the earliest coloniser of post glacial lands

20 December 2021

Sea buckthorn. I was surprised at how many berries left though they’ve lost their deep orange shine

20 December 2021

And the leaves of sea buckthorn… what few remain

20 December 2021

Sedge holds its colour no matter what comes its way

20 December 2021

What comes is wind… and the wind sweeps the sand… to cover everything

20 December 2021

Tree lupin. A hard frost will blacken them, but not the salt and the wind

20 December 2021

And a final photo, one I couldn’t resist, seen on Lowestoft pier…

20 December 2021

That’s all for now, folks. Wishing you all Peace, Love & Contentment in the coming year

Sunday Picture Post: Winter Dunes

20th December: it took us 2 buses to reach Kessingland beach where the dunes stretch into the distance in mimic of the Gobi desert. Here the marram, so green in the summer, had bleached almost to white. The challenge was to find colour.

20 December 2021

20 December 2021

20 December 2021

20 December 2021

Even the few berries that remained on the sea buckthorn had faded. Made no difference to this blackbird. He still munched on them

20 December 2021

I’m not used to seeing reeds on the beach… but this is a different dune system to the one I’m familiar with at Great Yarmouth

20 December 2021

Here there is water. These quite extensive pools are called slacks

20 December 2021

20 December 2021

Patterns left behind by the tide…

20 December 2021

And that sea was a little bit choppy

20 December 2021

Before we leave the dunes and the beach, a look landward at the ever eroding cliffs

20 December 2021

Habitation! And beach huts where traditionally bathers would change in privacy. These days they’re more likely used to shelter from our wonderful English winds!

20 December 2021

We continued our walk along the prom into Lowestoft. But I’m saving those photos for another day. Hope you enjoyed. And Happy Christmas!

Like a Band of Boys

Neighbour’s an elderly lady
Quiet
But Christmas Eve
Like a band of boys
What a din
What a noise!

Harbour Lights

20 December 2021

I was waiting for the sun to crest the horizon but just couldn’t resist turning the zoom to the distant lights at the harbour’s mouth (perhaps as much as a mile away)

Rule of Thirds, another title achieved from the list for #2021picoftheweek provided by Maria Antonia.

To show how it works…

CCC163: Gloria in excelsis

Gloria slammed the door on the carol-singers with their “Deck the halls”.

She didn’t want to be jolly. Or rather she wanted to be jolly all on her own. Why, when all year round they left her alone, couldn’t care less if she lived or drowned, must they bully her into enjoying their company? Just because of the season. No! No, no, and no again. She didn’t like company. She didn’t want to sing, at least not their songs. She was okay on her own.

She put on her music, opened a bottle, sank into her chair, and skinned a spliff. NOW Gloria was in excelsis.

Happy Christmas. And please be considerate of your neighbours. Maybe they LIKE to be on their own and do their own thing. That doesn’t mean they are lonely.

Sunday Picture Post: In the Early Morning

9th December, temperature isn’t sub-zero but the wind is keen. You might like to wear thermals. No bus to catch, we’re walking out of town. Which means we catch the sun rise.

The confluence of Bure and Yare, and the town in darkness beyond

9 December 2021

Breydon Bridge… it has become iconic

9 December 2021

And Breydon Water lies ahead

9 December 2021

And behind us…

9 December 2021

It’s called the golden hour for a reason. BTW that’s a puddled path, it’s not a stream

9 December 2021

Breydon’s grazing marshes…

9 December 2021

For a while now this is our route

9 December 2021

Birds are everywhere but too distant for me to get good focus, even with zoom (they keep moving!)

9 December 2021

One of the farms along the way

9 December 2021

There is a road across the marsh, private but locals walk it. Here the weather’s turned

9 December 2021

For me, this is iconic of our grazing marshes

9 December 2021

We arrive at the Queen’s Head (pub) Burgh Castle. We’re going to head up to the Roman fort where the views are amazing…

9 December 2021

I don’t know if I’ll get a walk in next week so I’m holding the rest of the photos in case. Hope you enjoyed
