Sunday Picture Post: By Heath and River

Continuing our walk of 21st October. From atop Mousehold Heath we now descend through the trees and down to the river. The mist has cleared. The sun shines from a clouded sky. Enjoy…

21st October 2022

The trees are late in turning colour this year; we’re noticing it everywhere

21st October 2022

Just a yellowing of leaves… even the bracken is retaining its colour away from the sun

Ah! But this hidden flame is surely an ‘alien’ maple! It’s on the edge of the heath, close to gardens

21st October 2022

River Wensum… and her swans (5 cygnets, seen several times this summer as we’ve passed along the river)

21st October 2022

21st October 2022

Looking towards Bishopsgate Bridge, the oldest surviving bridge in town

21st October 2022

We must leave the river to cross the bridge…

21st October 2022

Iconic Pulls Ferry, graces every calendar that features Norwich. The ferryman Pull provided a vehicle crossing at this place

21st October 2022

And so to return home by bus. A thoroughly enjoyable day. Hope you enjoyed too. Next week we’re heading into farmland…and woods! Hope you’ll join me then

Caught in the Rain. Again

Costessey, 7th November 2022

According to the weather forecast we should have been on the bus coming home before the rain came. But it caught the tail end of our walk. It wasn’t torrential, though more than a brief shower. We took shelter here.

Tranquil, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek

The red colouring to the water is, I think, due to a high iron content to the soil

Melusine

image by Mystic Art Design on pixabay

The rhythmic whoosh and whish of the sea drew Melusine on.
Down river she swam, avoiding the hooks of the anglers there.
She just wanted to see the sea, just this once.

But she had been warned not to stray that far
That her body couldn’t tolerate a thalassic environment.

Alas, the salt pickled her… of course!

CCC209: Guilty

Footsteps behind me
Someone following
Gaining on me
I hasten
I mustn’t be caught with what I’m carrying
Clip-clop, slip-clop, the cobbles slippery with the wet leaves of autumn
The creature in my arms struggles to be free
Hush, my sweet, almost there
Clip-clop, slip-clop, SCREAM!
In my fright I drop the cat
I glance behind
My follower lay in a pool of blood, head cracked on the cobbles
The cat, the cat, where is the cat?
Lost beneath a mound of feasting rats
Pestilence is rife.
This is our death
This is our life
And cats are as guilty as rats

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #209

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Sunday Picture Post: Town and Country Morning Mist

21st October 2022 begins with thick mist. Bussing across the marshland into Norwich we can’t see beyond the edge of the road. We’re heading out to Mousehold Heath, a wooded hill topped by a heathland

Our route takes us down the oft-photographed Elm Hill

21st October 2022

And via the riverside walk…

21st October 2022

21st October 2022

A short climb, steep, not high, bring us to the woodland and the first of autumnal colour

21st October 2022

21st October 2022

21st October 2022

21st October 2022

And so to the heathland…

21st October 2022

Delighted to see the heather in flower

21st October 2022

And the bracken turned to burned and fiery autumn colour

21st October 2022

Alas, there we must leave this walk, but we’ll continue next week

Musing in the Mews

21st October 2022

A scene in The Close, Norwich Cathedral, where residents in former days were able to stable their horses, the grooms probably sleeping above, in the hayloft
