Just a few of the fungi found on our walk around Mousehold Heath (Norwich) on 21st October. Enjoy, all you fungi fanatics!
Hope you enjoyed. More next week, for these weren’t even half the camera’s harvest of that day

If you go down to the woods today
You’d best take a spear and a shield
You’d best be brave for there you’ll find
A bestial beast who’ll refuse to yield
Fire it breathes
And its back is plated with steel
And don’t you get too close to it
Else you’ll end up being its next meal
Some says that’s just a story
To frighten children such as you
But I’ve seen it emitting its blue halo-light
And I tell you that it’s true
As to that blue halo-light… I don’t know. A water droplet on my lens? Maybe
Here’s how it works:
Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE
Here are some suggestions:
You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:
If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)
Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN
A colourful collection from our walk on 10th October 2022
This isn’t a native shrub, it’s an “ornamental”, but I couldn’t resist that colour
Now we’re into “native”…
And berries…
And acorns…
More leaves…
Bryony, just hanging around…
Undecided whether to include this photo, but I like it
In a woodland full of holly…
And finally an oddity. Not sure what this is. Possibly lichen.
And that, dear readers, is all for this week. Ah, but more next week!
10th October, our intended walk is only a short bus journey away. But just as we get off the bus, a great heavy cloud dumps its rain on us. We took shelter in a shop.
Quarter hour later the rain stops and we walk. We’re heading to two small woodlands, but first there’s a lovely meadow
We encounter some very thick-trunked trees… must be old
This one has honey fungus attacking its roots (it’s not long for this world)
Every so often the path leads us back to that meadow
Here’s a path that’s trying to keep us on the not-quite so straight-and-narrow
Under the bridge (disused railway) and into sunshine
And here we find a bench, so we sit awhile
The second woodland doesn’t lend itself much to photography, such a dense canopy, lots of dark holly undergrowth. But I manage this one
That’s all folks. Check out Tuesday Treats for some very colourful foliage!
Some shots need a little tweak to change ok to perfect. But all I did with this was to crop in closer. Nature, the sun, and my camera did the rest.
Perfect Shot, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek
The coarse angler slipped on the muddy bank and took a dunking in the river.
There, I’ve done it.
But Sammi wants us to write 78 words.
Using dunk?
Using dunk.
Humph. So, Tessa the new do-it-all secretary took her coffee break just ten minutes after starting. When the boss complained, she held up a packet of Rich Tea biscuits and asked if he wanted to share a dunk.
Yay!
That’s only 70. You need eight more.
Done!
78 words wittily written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Dunk
For those struggling with the maths, the penultimate line brought the total to 77. Done = one more.
It’s our special Friday Feature. And OH! what a lot we’ve got. Whittling them down to a manageable number wasn’t easy. Hope you approve of the choice.
And finally my favourite lichenised fungi, Cladonia
Wow, that’s what you call a fungi feast. Hope you liked. More next week.
My love is gone
Where can he be?
He’s not in the barn where he used to be
Nor yet in the fields, that I can see
He’d been coughing and choking
Not sounding well
I do hope he’s not gone
To Tractor Hell
