27th March and finally we have a dry and sunny day. So, bus into Norwich and walk out along Marriott’s Way. How far will we go? There are several places we can leave the Way and a catch a bus. We’ll see how it goes.
River Wensum as she flows through Norwich…
The official start of the Way…
The Wensum will be our companion…
First bridge…
Marriott’s Way is a 25 mile walkers and cycling route. Here, at Anderson’s Meadow, the way forms a hub with the city cycle ways, so tends to be busy. But off to one side… this
We cross a road and for a short way join what I knew in my youth as the “Tow Path”. It runs alongside a small water way/drain
Not sure why the trees all lean to one side… except it is a sloping site
Say Hello to the Wensum. Again.
We cross a meadow to rejoin Marriott’s Way, where we take a short break on a conveniently placed seat (they are few and far between)
And movement in the reeds catch our eyes
A deer. Such shy creatures, they usually flee at the first hint of a human. And what’s that beside her? I struggle for a better focus…
And now I’m stunned. She has a young one with her. And judging by the previous shots (not all shown here) and the glistening of the young one’s coat, I’d say it’s new-born. Incredible!
Mother and baby soon melt into the undergrowth. We rejoin the Way and meet again with the Wensum, and the second bridge. Just visible in the distance is a third bridge which marks the boundary of Norwich.
We’re about to cross into Costessey. More of that next week. Hope you enjoyed. For us, so far it’s been a delightful walk!
Wow! What luck to meet a new baby dear and mom. Lovely pictures

Those leaning trees are something, too!

I came this way after a storm (back in 2020) and two of those leaning willows had uproots and fallen. I had to clamber over them. Obviously, they weren’t those trees you see now!
