What Pegman Saw: At Portmeirion

Portmeirion

What Pegman Saw

The elves came out of the woods, came into the open.
‘Where shall we build our new homes?’ asked the headman, Alvyn.
‘I know,’ said Damh the Bard, ‘let’s build of stone at Portmeirion.’

Asaric Tales e-book Update #16

Asaric Tales update16

Asaric Tales is the working title for The Spinner’s Game

And I start with GREAT NEWS … Asaric Sons WT (Book Four) is NOW READY for beta-readers! I’m hoping all my regular betas will again volunteer, plus some new ones!

Beta Readers Required

Asaric Tales is the working title for The Spinner’s Game

Beta Readers

Newbies:
If you’d like to lend your services, to read, to enjoy, to answer a few simple questions—could you understand that scene, did this or that grate, have I overinformed, underinformed, who did you like best etc—then please, don’t be put off by the fact this is the fourth in the quint and you don’t know ‘the story so far’. It’s especially betas like you that I want to recruit. While these books are not intended as a string of stand-alone stories, yet it should be possible to pick up the overall plot along the way. And that’s why I need you. See Contact Me

Asaric Sons, WT (Book Four) Blurb

The Spinner has tasked Kerrid to eradicate the snake-demon Neka, believed responsible for the Asars banishment from their high World of Divinities. It seems an impossible task. For if the Spinner can’t kill the demon, how can she? Yet Kerrid is convinced, if she can return to the World of Divinities, she’ll find the answer there.

Unable to use the pole of Book Three, Kerrid now tries a different strategy. There are holes in the sky, and one is above Black Mother Mountain in Gushan, familiar from her child-days. If she returns there, if she climbs the mountain … But there she faces an obstacle. Her sister.

Kerrid’s childhood nemesis, her sister has forbidden Kerrid access to Gushan, and her sister is the keeper of the demon in physical form. That demon has taken everyone Kerrid ever loved: her father, her foster-mother, the Linershunn who gave her shelter, Jedren her mortal lover, father of the child she now carries.

Now she must protect that infant, keep him safe from the demon. Yet also she must complete her task. Troubled times lay ahead for her.

The Spinner’s Child (formerly Asaric Lies)

As far as revisions, rewrites and edits are concerned, The Spinner’s Child, Book One, is now locked down. Happiness time, awaiting the day when I can release three together. Moreover, its cover is nailed, thanks to my brilliant critique partner, cover designer Lauren Willmore. But we’re not finished yet.

As the beta-readers will know, each of the five books comprise five parts. And each of the five parts has a title. And now each of the five parts are to have a title-page design. Part One: On Eagle Wings is now in my excited possession.

‘Any suggestions?’ Lauren asked.

And I answered, ‘Beardsley-esque.’

And Lauren delivered. Lo!

The Spinner's Child -

The Spinner’s Child. Part One: On Eagle Wings

Lauren is now working on the remaining four page-designs for the book.

Asaric Skies WT (Book Three)

I had already snipped the opening chapters of this book to append to Lake of Dreams (Book Two) and am satisfied with the change. Now I’m changing certain parts of the ending to ramp the tension yet further, wrap an inclusive arm around key characters who I’d previously allowed to fade and, in my opinion, vastly improve it. With the rewrite completed, I shall need a trusty beta to check it out for me. Probably by Easter, so if you’re interested watch this space.

And I guess that’s all I can report for now. Several steps closer to that nail-biting day when I announce the launch.

The next e-book update will be … Sunday 6th April.

Who’s for a Paddle?

Last Thursday … what a walk. For of the season, legs seemed not to be mine, though they finally got the hang of it. Meanwhile, the photo ops leapt out from all directions.

Up A Creek

The Wensum, still within Norwich: 21st February 2019

In Norfolk a creek is a short stream that cuts through a salt marsh to outlet at the sea. Yet the term also conjures up what I’d call a beck or a brook. Thus I was concerned the Wensum might exceed dimensions. But Maria assured me much bigger than this is still a creek. And so …  I claim it for #2019picoftheweek challenge title: Creek

Crimson’s Creative Challenge: St Lawrence’s Steps

I’m playing the pun here …

The parish of St Lawrence is one of five created (before 1035) from the early Anglo-Saxon foundation of St Gregory. The five parishes are closely strung, 400 yards from one end to the other, along the Roman east-west through-road known in Middle Ages as Homestrete Way.

Whatever the face of St Lawrence’s original foundation, in 15th century the church was completely rebuilt in textbook Perpendicular on the proceeds of the wool trade.

St Lawrence, Archdeacon of Rome, was martyred in 258 CE.

And yes, the photo was taken early morning

CCC#16

CCC#16

Welcome to my weekly challenge—open to all—just for FUN, FUN, FUN

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
If you tag it #CCC others should be able to find it by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN.

Details of the photo are given, if relevant, below this line

Damp-Erased

Walking the beach,
Washed within reach,
A message in a bottle.

Not indelibly inked;
Damp-erased,
Writing now indistinct.

What Pegman Saw: O Gaia

Mt Everest by Mauricio Junior Pegman

O Gaia, O Goddess, Giant amongst Titans, Mother of gods whose very height frightens
Forgive us.
Forgive our trespass upon your flanks; Forgive our rubbish left at our camps
Forgive our bodies, dead in their quest; Forgive the spikes driven into your breast
Forgive our affrontery, that we seek to conquer you; Forgive us that we do not honour you
Forgive us all the wrongs we do to you; We are but the newly-born next to you

Sunday Fungi: Tea with the Elves

Scarlet Elf Cup

Scarlet Elf Cup: 21 February 2019

A magnificent Scarlet Elf Cup … first time seen, so I’m chuffed. A winter/early spring fruiting fungus, though small it’s easily seen. (Bristly bug thrown in for free!)

A Particular Liminal Place

Bridge Over the Wensum

Bridge over the Wensum: 21 February 2019

This bridge marks the boundary of city and country with Norwich to one side, and the parishes of Costessey and Hellesdon to the other.

I claim it for #2019picoftheweek challenge title: Bridge, cos … it is.
