If I Open the Door

Love called for me today
I ducked my head
Said go away
I do not want
To feel these things
The doubts, the fears
That love will bring
I had built a wall
Had hemmed me in
And learned to live
Alone again

But love called for me today
If I open the door
Will it stay?

I blame Entangled for this, challenging me to write the love stuff….

CCC84: His Old Sweetheart

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #84

Grandpa used to say he’d pulled the letters out of a bag to name his boat.

And we believed him.

Until we were clearing his things from his boat after he died, ready to sell the old berth, and found a letter.

From his wartime sweetheart. Postmarked Wehlau

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #84

CCC#84

Welcome to my weekly challenge—open to all—just for FUN, FUN, FUN

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN.

Lap Up That Pain

image: Joanquin Aranoa

Lap up that pain
That feeling mightn’t come again
You might find numbness follows
Fear inures you to another
Armour, thickened skin, self-protection
Grown and honed to impenetrable perfection
Lap up that pain
You might not ever feel again

To bring balance… for there are two sides to love

To the Legend… a belated eulogy

Mama called him obstinate
Too stubborn to change his ways
Papa called him obdurate
That hell awaited his end of days

But he rocked, and he rolled
Heels dug into that slippery road
Strutted along unheeding, refused the call
Sights on that place he knew so well
And as he swung, unchanging
He raised a finger in the air
Rather, he said, a fuck in hell
Than a sleepless toss, mon cher.

72 words for Sammi’s Weekend Prompt: Obdurate

Apologies for the language but it is what Oswald used to say, and I have cleaned up the worst. May he rest… or not.

Sunday Picture Post: Dune Community

I’ve already posted several of the photos I took back in May when I walked along the river Bure, through Bure Park, and onto the dunes… now I give you my shots of the wildflowers there (those not trodden by too many feet!)

Devilsbit Scabious? Or Sheepsbit?: 18 May 2020

Tiny plant, easily missed. But whose ‘bit’ is it? It’s one I’ve never been absolutely sure on.

Sea Holly: 18 May 2020

Beware with bare feet. Those leaves are prickly.

Birdsfoot Trefoil: 18 May 2020

This trefoil has many regional names. The one I like best is Egg and Bacon.

Tree Lupin: 18 May 202

A total misnomer. As you can see, it’s not a tree, though it can grow to a shrubby 6′. It’s a common sight on the dunes of Norfolk and Suffolk

Rush Hour Traffic

River Bure as it enters Great Yarmouth: 18 May 2020

The photo was taken during what used to be the rush hour. The bridge in the distance carries the main road in.

No rush, no hurry, no river traffic. Peaceful.

Peaceful, another title achieved in Maria’s Antonia’s #2020picoftheweek

Addiction

About a month ago Entangle Designs challenged me to write a romantic poem. I don’t do romantic stuff, I said. And then delivered my poem on time.

Well, seems I’ve caught the bug, cos here’s another…

To wait on you, I will not do
What? To make myself a slave to you?
That I’ve chide my sisters not to do.
Be free, be you, do as you need
And DO NOT PLEAD

Then why do I wait
Like a trusting maiden by the gate
Making up reasons when you’re late?

Why do I wait
Like a sixties’ cat sat on the coals
When you don’t call?

Why do I wait
Eyes fixed on the phone
For a text or a tweet
To say something sweet?

To wait on you I will not do
Yet without you
Distracting activities are not fun
My mind races and I’d rather run
Others fill your day when I want to play
Addiction, never thought I would succumb.

CCC#83: Hot Chocolate

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #83

What’s that Hot Chocolate got what we ain’t got?

Look at him, just look at him, hanging out there for the first bite of the apple.

Always the same. Never gives us others a chance.

Hogs every visitor – especially the females.

It’s not fair, that’s what it’s not.

I’d suggest we castrate him except he’s already been done.
