Sunday Picture Post: How Green Grows My Land

As promised, the second part of our walk to Burlingham Woods, and beyond.

Burlingham Woods were formerly part of Burlingham Hall. And those landowners of late really did like to pretty-up their woods. The plants remain to the delight of us walkers…

Yellow Sausage, You’ll Do

As a young child I had difficulty articulating words… until I started school and had speech therapy. It was hard work and annoying for a child of five who would rather be outside playing with friends. Three words/phrases I remember caused me the most trouble: “Yellow”, “Sausage” and “You’ll do”, which I pronounced as Werrow, Totidge and Yodel.

CCC#178: All I Have Left

We had a fight.
Yea, yea, I know, we’re always fighting, but this was the worst.
I lost it – my patience with him, my tolerance, my everything.
I told him to pack his bag and to go.
And he went.
And he took everything.
Now all I have left is that wall.
I swear, I’m never going to live in a caravan again.

Note for non-UK readers: caravan = trailer

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #178

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Sunday Picture Post: Bare Brown and Green

22nd March and a short bus ride takes across the marshes to our starting point, Acle. We’re going to walk to Burlingham Woods, then on a bit further before we turn around. It is a walk in two parts, the first section characterised by the colour brown. Please, do come along.

A misty start…

22nd March 2022

Every year this tree produces oak galls…

22nd March 2022

Here is a plantation of various wild and domestic fruiting trees. Too early for the best of the blossoms, but here there are teasels galore…

22nd March 2022

22nd March 2022

And birch, budding red with bark of silver

22nd March 2022

22nd March 2022

Out of the plantation and over the fields. The earth might look bare and brown but there is a slight haze of green, this summer’s grain

22nd March 2022

The only puddle encountered on this first stage of our walk, but it was easily skirted around…

22nd March 2022

And here we encounter the first of the colour, the crimson catkins of the Black Poplar…

22nd March 2022

22nd March 2022

And pussy willow…

22nd March 2022

And I leave you with this… cos wherever I am, fungi are never far away!

22nd March 2022

That’s all for this week. Next Sunday we’ll do the rest of the walk… and I promise you some green.

Hope you enjoyed
