CCC177: My Little Pony

“I spit on the Romans and spit trebly upon that hill-tribe queen, Caradoc-Bear’s own kin, who handed him over to the emperor’s men, saying she ‘feared Roman retribution elsewise’.”

“Queen Cartimandua?”

“Yeh, her. My little pony.”

Neve didn’t understand the reference but understood the savage tone. Raesan definitely didn’t like her.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #177

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Sunday Picture Post: A Small Suffolk Town

Monday 14th March and we’ve a long way to go, nearly 2 hours of sitting on buses just to reach the small Suffolk town of Bungay. The town sits on the banks of the River Waveney, which is one of the three rivers that flow through my home town of Great Yarmouth to join the North Sea.

Looking here at a model of the town’s medieval origins

14th March 2022

Bungay have three churches, although the Catholic Church of St Edmunds is more recent. St Mary’s (below) is a former priory

14th March 2022

The round tower church is named for the Trinity

Bigod’s Castle (remains of).  Hugh Bigod inherited land from his uncle Roger who had fought beside William the Conqueror (Duke of Normandy) in 1066 and beyond. But the family backed the wrong side in later disturbances and had their castles confiscated.

14th March 2022

Seems building methods didn’t change much; this could be the C3rd Roman fort at Burgh Castle!

14th March 2022

The ancient trading centre of the town, the Buttercross

14th March 2022

A walk around the town reveals an assortment of vernacular architecture

And to finish, a walk along by the river…

I hope you enjoyed our little excursion. More information about Bungay and Bigod Castle can be found here

In A Woodland Sweet

22nd March 2022

Before the trees put forth their leaves, daffodils carpet the woodland floor.

CCC176: The Move

Oh, what a flurry there was amongst the residents when Tud Hopper brought back the news.

“A ‘legal paper’ slapped on us?”

“Not on us. On our home,” Tud Hopper said.

“But…but…” no one could spit out the words.

“Reggie Gardener won’t allow it to happen,” Betty said, and stood firm on that.

“Reggie Gardener is dead,” Tud Hopper said. “And has been these great many years.”

It was agreed, they must find a new home, one and all.

“I’m not moving,” said Betty. “I’ve roots that dig deep.”

Tud Hopper nodded but wouldn’t say. It was because of Betty Birch that they were facing this woeful day.

Sunday Picture Post: Chet Valley

8th March, it takes two buses to deliver us to Brooke, southeast of Norwich, to begin our walk along the Chet Valley. With so much rain of late, we’re happy to road-walk. So put on your “walkers” and join us.

Wellbeck Road… out of Brooke

8th March 2022

The water-meadows alongside the Wellbeck

8th March 2022

This is a peaceful corner of Norfolk, scarcely a car all day, it’s like walking back in time

8th March 2022

It must be delightful when the leaves appear. Yet the skeletal trees allow a wonderful quality of light

8th March 2022

SS Peter and Paul, Bergh Apton and time to rest awhile

8th March 2022

8th March 2022

8th March 2022

We see snowdrops everywhere…

8th March 2022

The land here undulates… gently

8th March 2022

More meadows…

8th March 2022

St Mary’s church at Sisland. We stop here for lunch and sit in the sun

8th March 2022

Destination: Chedgrave, where the Chet reaches the Yare and Broads cruisers lay up for the winter

8th March 2022

From here we catch the first of the two buses that will take us home. Hope you’ve enjoyed this little exploration.
