Sunday Picture Post: Damgate Carr

28th May, our intent is to walk from Acle to Halvergate, and back. The gives us varied scenery. We begin at Damgate Carr, a wet woodland, and the day is overcast.

Into the woods…

28th May 2022

On a hot day this place becomes like a tropical jungle, but today isn’t hot…

28th May 2022

Just follow the path… and don’t step off (unless you want wet & muddy feet)

28th May 2022

Look up  there, honeysuckle is everywhere

28th May 2022

The snails love it, here embracing a stinging nettle…

28th May 2022

And fungi appear when least expected…

28th May 2022

Guelder Rose mingle with Honeysuckle, such profusion…

28th May 2022

A drain runs through here. Perspective creates illusions; this waterway is too wide to leap!

28th May 2022

White Currants and Yellow Flags, typical wet woodland vegetation…

28th May 2022

The Yellow Flag catches a sudden burst of sunlight!

28th May 2022

More fungi, more snails…

28th May 2022

Coming to the end of the woodland, the drain that runs through it now joins with the Fleet which carries the marshland water

28th May 2022

Time to sit down and reflect…

28th May 2022

In the company of ducks…

28th May 2022

From here we’ll join Weavers Way and cross Acle grazing marshes to veer off then to the village of Halvergate. Hope you’ll come along too

Christmas at Easter

12th April 2022

This is my Christmas Cactus. It flowered quite profusely at Christmas (when I bought it). Then t he flowers dropped off and I put it on the kitchen windowsill with my other succulents. Then comes Easter…this!

Guess t hat qualifies for Green Thumb, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek

And that gives me ONE LINE. My first one, all excited.

His Lemon-Coloured Vest

image by Darkmoon Art on pixabay

Beau Jest
Was the best
In his lemon-coloured vest
Improperly dressed
Was his admission
Without that tickety-boo addition
Didn’t matter his crimson spats
That protected his shoes from sharp-clawed cats
Nor his colourful cravats
Without his vest
Life had no zest

CCC186: A Train of Thought

I’m on a train
A train of thought
I thought this was my station
Turns out it’s the day of the Queen’s Coronation
Hopping back on that train
Riding a while and at the next thought I’ll hop off again
Ah! That’s better
My desired destination.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #186

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Bred in Captivity

image by Alexas Fotos on pixabay

There was a fuss
A to-do
The day the animals escaped from the zoo
There was dissent
And much disapproval
At the suggestion of the zoo’s removal
Bred in captivity
Unequipped for urban survival
Freedom was good but not a valid revival
Liberty is best kept for the already free!
Nets and drugs might be given a try
But never guns: that caused an outcry!

Sunday Picture Post: Back Down to the Sea

Resuming the walk from Lowestoft to Gorleston on 15th May, we’d reached Corton Woods… now to continue

15th May 2022

Having untangled ourselves from the web of paths, we head back to the sea… to find it’s almost low tide. Truly

15th May 2022

So we take the cliff path… oops! We’ve run out of land. Try again

15th May 2022

There is beach down there but it’s too dangerous and all access is blocked

15th May 2022

We continue along the cliff path. We’re heading to that misty-greyness in the distance

15th May 2022

Closer now, we can see destination. Still a misty-greyness…

15th May 2022

You want to see the sea? You want to walk down there? Not on your Nelly!

15th May 2022

Ah! Sand. Beach. And a lot of  teasels. Ok, it’s now safe to go down…

15th May 2022

The last leg, north Hopton to south Gorleston and the sea defences are weary and worn and no longer effective

15th May 2022

I like playing… but not when the sea is crashing over me!

15th May 2022

The last stretch…

15th May 2022

Erosion, a story repeated all along this coast

15th May 2022

And we’re there, Gorleston beach

15th May 2022

Hope you enjoyed the walk. Here we stop for a coffee before heading off to the bus to take us back across the river.

CCC185: Always Remembered

The others were tall and elegant, with bodies well-formed and gowns structured and firm.

She was short, her body weak and weedy, her gown flimsy, easily torn.

They had a sameness, she was different; when together, she stood out, alone yet not forlorn.

Poppy her name, chosen always to be remembered.
