This heraldic device is called an Achievement, and it records all the noble in-laws of the deceased. The red hand denotes a baronnet. Thus a person’s genealogy is displayed. I found this in Hethel church where the deceased was buried. Alas, I’m unable to decipher it.
I claim this as Family Time, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek
Wonderful! Have never seen one up close, thanks for the treat

My pleasure. It’s not the actual heraldic shield but a device that commenarates the deceased person’s family connections

How interesting. And it’s perfect for the ‘Family Time’ prompt.

Thank you. I must admit I was struggling on that one, though I had thought a family of swans might cover it

Now that is an interesting way to interpret family time!!

You know I’ll always look for an unusual angle. Although this Saturday I’ve gone totally straight on it

Yes. I love that. And nothing wrong with straight on, either!

What a wonderful choice for the prompt

Well, I’d taken the photo cos these things interest me (at one time I had a history blog on WP too). And it did answer the prompt. Otherwise that shot would have just remained unseen in my folder
