The Alpha Male

picture by Beto G on pixabay

My man is resourceful
He’s intelligent, tenacious – he stays the course, has a PhD
He’s imaginative, the creator of hot plots that feature me
His body’s robust, well-formed with thighs that are solid
Respected, respectable, nothing about him squalid
He isn’t young but not yet old
A snappy dresser, yet not over-bold
So what if I’m not his first, for neither is he for me
Pre-loved… just wish he were free

Met Office Lied

14 August 2021

Breydon Water, a short walk from where I live, is where I go to take photos of sunsets. This day the Met Office forecast an overcast sky, too cloudy for the sun to shine through, but I needed the walk. As it turned out that, like Sméagol, Met Office lied… though it lasted only 5 minutes and it wasn’t a sunset.

Morning/Evening, another title achieved from the list provided for #2021picoftheweek provided by Maria Antonia.

CCC145: RIP, Grandma

“Don’t you go falling down that well, Little ‘Un,” That’s what my grandpa said every time.

“She won’t fall, you daft ‘un,” my grandma always answered him and would allow me to carry the empty bucket down the moss-lined garden path.

But at the well she always took that bucket from me and did something with it inside the cover.

“Right you go, now,” she’d say, “wind her down.” And I would turn the handle, standing on tiptoes when it reached the top and putting my weight on it to bring it back down.

There’d be a splash as the bucket hit water. And that’s when grandma took over. Winding her up would be too hard a task for me.

The year I was seven – in the May – that task proved too much for her too. Rest In Peace, Grandma.

Until Forever

Crispina Kemp: 14 Aug 2021

Glow
My heart does glow
I’ll have you know
When you are near
When you show you care

Slow
The days goes slow
Like a sluggard flow
When you’re not around
When you are gone

Grow
My love does grow
And this to you, you know I’ll vow
Ever to be by your side
No matter where we both reside

Howl
You know I’d howl
And I would growl
A wild beast on a leash
If from this vow you now release
That we will be together
Forsaking any other
This day until forever

An Ode to I Know Who

Ought I to blush?
Am I a lush
To spend the night
In Dionysus’ arms
inebriated by his charms?
A Bacchanalian revelry,
My Lord, I cry, It’s most unlike me!
