My Father

7th February 2022

My father, born under adventuresome Aries
was hard to please
Unlike Capricorn’s sure-footed mountain-goat.
When he had a great fortune he would gloat
A fortune, note, that we didn’t see
Next day he’d swear he would rather shovel shit in the Isle of Capri.
Mother had two words for him, and I agree
Ambitious, capricious

CCC170: So I said to him

So I said to him, I said, I can’t work no ruddy faster.

And he said, all hoity cos he’s the gaffer, he said, you’ll work as fast as I say.

So I said to him, cos I weren’t having that, I said, they’re building another church down the road, I’ll go work on that.

And he said, all red in the face, he said, you walk off this job and I’ll make sure you’ll never work again.

Well, I’d had enough of him. So I said, you can take your threats and stuff them up your anus.

And he said…well, you can see what he said by what he’s had done to me. Stuck here as a ruddy gargoyle for ever more.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #170

Tuesday Treat: Feathered Fun

Photos from our walk on Thursday 27th January. The day started overcast, so apologies if the photos don’t sparkle.

The blackbird, nature’s alarm clock…

27th January 2022

And the mallard, nature’s mocker, for their quack sure does sound like mocking laughter

27th January 2022

The shy little moorhen, always delighted to get a photo of these…

27th January 2022

From shy to flashy… Spectacle Geese aka Egyptian Geese

27th January 2022

More geese, these the more common grey lag

27th January 2022

Black-headed gulls in winter plumage. Love how they all face the same way…

27th January 2022

The swan needs no introduction…

27th January 2022

An immature swan comes in to land (to water?)…

27th January 2022

Loved this immature’s markings, so distinct, as if it’s been embroidered…

27th January 2022

More swans, more ducks, all of a muddle. What’s the attraction?

27th January 2022

27th January 2022

If you hadn’t guessed it, a gent on a bike has thrown them some swan-&-duck food. But the gulls are first to it…

27th January 2022

That’s all folks. Hope you enjoyed. I wonder what we’ll have next week? See you all then

Sunday Picture Post: Village Life

Last week we walked the Yare Valley. Today, we’re back on Norfolk’s mostly flat top, walking the villages (second part of walk 27th January 2022)

Every Norfolk village should have one of these…

27th January 2022

And they all have one of these…

St Andrews, Kirby Bedon: 27th January 2022

Sometimes the church is open and we get to peep inside…

27th January 2022

At Kirby Bedon there are two churches. Alas, St Mary’s has seen better days…

27th January 2022

A village must have a farm. Great sums of money were spent on their barns when the new system of farming (field rotations) came in.

27th January 2022

And all those barns and fields require this…

27th January 2022

But where do the villagers live?

27th January 2022

27th January 2022

As we started with a church, so we leave. This is the beautiful but humble church at Hellington…

27th January 2022

And this is it’s ornate and ancient entrance…

27th January 2022

That’s all for now folks. Hope you enjoyed our visit to the villages of Kirby Bedon, Bramerton, Rockland St Mary and Hellington. I pray you’ll join me for Tuesday Treat. I believe last week I promised you some birds.

You Keep Me Hanging

27th January 2022

This wonderful lion’s head is a detail from an ornate light fitting. But while the lion is Life, here he is perfectly Still. And so… Still Life, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek

No worse than the pox

image by Christian Dorn on pixabay

The plague, it was said, caused a worldwide flummox
But it was nothing, they said, no worse than the pox
Which pox? Cowpox, chickenpox, swinepox?
Didn’t they know the pox was a killer?
Whether detoxed or vaccinated, nothing could stop this grave-filler.

CCC169: Little Jack

Jack dusted himself down. His legs were aching, a burn in his calves. But he knew that would ease as soon as he walked. At least he’d made it to here. So much for the nay-sayers.

Oh, you’ll fall, they said. Look how tall it is.

And so it was. It was the mightiest beanstalk he’d ever seen.

He looked around him, stretching his over-worked legs. Now, where was that giant?
