Every English Country House has a gatehouse; sometimes they come in pairs. But it wasn’t the gatehouse which drew my camera (see below) it was the door.

It was my idea
Not theirs to steal
Like slithery eels
Stealing out of woven creels
On my knees
I knelt to appeal
Truly the offence is real
A most awful ordeal
No use to conceal
Though it might make us reel
It was MY meal
And zestful.
Ideal!

The various fungi seen on our walk 13th September 2023. Nothing outstanding and exciting, but early days yet. And so, I give you these…
I think this one is an Oyster-something. It’s part-eaten-something, I do know!
Pretty, like flowers
At least these have deeper colour
Birch Polypore (I think)
I love how, in getting low to the fungi, I get close-ups of the newly fallen leaves, wonderful dark colours
And finally…a deep crust of lichen!
I hope you enjoyed. I’m sure we’ll find more colourful and unusual forms as the season trundles along
Molly was a tittle-tattle
Always whispering in Edna’s ear
Thinking that way no one else would hear
Alas, the day did come when all the herd overheard
Then Molly had to turn and run!
Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE
Here are some suggestions:
You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:
If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it.
Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN
All the colour from our walk along the lanes to Tyrrell’s Wood on 13th September 2023
We start with the green, unripe berries of privet…dripping after the rain
And its neighbour, unripe Dogwood
Further down the lane, the hawthorn is hung in the colours of bryony!
While beneath them the sun turns the bramble leaves to jewels
More Dogwood, the leaves now putting on their emperor’s robes
But the leaves and berries of Spindle far outdoes any other for colour!
Guelder Rose advertises its poison in luscious lip-red
Here’s a tricky one, hanging around with the Sloes and yet it seems to be Hazel
And talking of Sloes…midnight blue
What, more Dogwood? Here it’s showing us its berries…darker than Sloes, I’d call them black
Rose Hips, the true colour of autumn!
A fallen Oak leaf, all bronzed up after a summer in the sun…
That’s all for now folks, hope you enjoyed
13th September 2023. After a day of torrential rain, the heatwave that has gripped our little land has finally broken. We venture again into the (formerly hot) interior!!! Bus to Norwich. Bus to Long Stratton.
Met Office said excellent visibility, yet I’m seeing haze
Are we in for more rain?
Oak before ash, in for a splash… yea, we should be ok
Crossing the common which is Wood Green, seeing into lush green gardens…
Just look at those wings…
Love these old trees…
We’re at Tyrrell’s Wood…which has a lot of hornbeam trees
My favourite tree!
It was very cool walking beneath the green leaves…
And my camera kept clicking!
It’s a tree but it looks like a column at the end of an avenue
Away from the woods, walking back to Long Stratton to catch the bus, and it is HOT. Here’s the old mill…
And beside it, glistening metals!
Hope you enjoyed. We did…
The incorrigible reprobate
Beloved, berated, much underrated
Always a smile
Spreading a mile
Lasting a while
Claimed to be wicked
A claim that’s insipid
Supposedly evil
Devilishly gleeful
Yet so full of goodness
It radiates

Today, the Norfolk village is best known as the home of Lotus Cars. But it wasn’t always so. Beneath Lotus Cars is the airfield that was home to United States Air Force during World War II. And they are remembered and honoured still.

It’s still early for fungi. But here are a few, mostly “field” fungi. Enjoy.
Tiny-tiny things…
Sheep had been grazing this field!
Sometimes I take the shot from a respectful distance…this is not kneeling country!
Ah, brackets, so much more civilised!
That’s all, folks. For now!
