But Gerald, I don’t understand what’s wrong with the new garden seating.
Just…just…just LOOK at them!
I thought you’d like them. You’ve always said how much your enjoy the fairground rides.

Berries, loads of berries, some of them edible, some poisonous, from our walk on 2nd September 2023. Enjoy
Elderberry…caught them before the birds stripped them!
Bittersweet…do not eat
Ditto
Honeysuckle. Do not touch
Rose Hips, in ages past used to make a Vit C rich syrup. And very nice it is too
Not a berry but a flower. Hops, used to make beer last longer
Haws, from the hawthorn. They are edible, but I’ve never met anyone who eats them. Best left for the birds
Blackberries!
We think these are cherry-plums. When ripe, extremely edible. Lovely wayside food. They used to be a crop-fruit until EU ruled against them.
Hope you’ve enjoyed
One of the reasons I like this week’s walk is, this time of year, loads of dragonflies. So let’s get to it…
And a recent arrival to our shores, I feel privileged to have seen it: Western Willow Widewing Damselfly…
Not only that but…
They’re going to have some babies!
But let’s not forget those other pretty flyers…
That’s all for now, folks
2nd September 2023. Where should we go? I know, across the marshes to the mill. Which takes us through Damgate Carr, and I love that little bit of wet woodland. Let’s go.
We bus to Acle…
And over the fleet, into the woods…
The sun turns it into a fairyland…
Elfin snails?
Over another fleet and out of the woods, heading now to the marshes…
Currently squeezed on an embankment between another fleet and a drain…
And before we know it we’ve crossed the first marsh…which wasn’t too marshy…
This little track is called The Knoll. Don’t ask, I don’t know…
Across the Acle “steppes” the railway runs…
And here’s the mill, considerably more overgrown than when I visited in March 2017. See HERE
We disturb some sheep…bah-bah…
And so to return… hope you enjoyed.
I should have some different scenery from different walks in different places when I return from holiday. Still Norfolk, though!
In the Old English way of place-names, a “green” was a common more often wet that dry. As with all commons, they attracted people to set up home around them, where free grazing and access to firewood and nature’s goodies were close to hand
Home, one of the titles from Maria Antonia’s #2023picofthe week
Don’t get me wrong
But really I don’t like Rom-Com
Too often the plot is contrived
And isn’t strong
With characters poorly constructed
Who don’t seem to belong
The dissonance
And disconnect
Strikes me painfully
Like an overloud gong
An altogether ill-written maelstrom.
But not every Rom-Com fits like this
A few are truly watch-worthy bliss!
56 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Maelstrom
Stella dreamt of startling dances
On the boards of the pier-end theatre
Pirouettes and comic stances
And an audience who’d laugh and cheer.
But an autumn storm swept the shore
Washed away the potential comedy
Tore away the theatre boards
Turned Stella’s dreams to tragedy

I’m away on holiday next week but I’ve scheduled CCC255, so please do check
Treats and details from our shore walk on 25th August 2025. Enjoy…
First encounter is with a sparrow in the marram grass…
And sea-kale is everywhere on this beach…
And sea-pea…
Love Tree Lupin, though it’s not a tree…
It comes in yellow, yellow, or yellow…
It’s a rugged rose, much suited to shorelines…
Sea-Holly, here in its purple stage!
Horned Poppy, still flowering, I was surprised…
I think it’s Coltsfoot, and I think it’s strayed from the cliffs!
Glasswort…and possibly something else…
Sea Buckthorn. Birds love those berries, rich in vitamin C, and not yet fully ripe (they turn bright orange)
And finally, that other seaside favourite, Tamarix.
Hope you enjoyed.
Now, what have I got for you next week? I shall have to schedule the posts from 23rd to 30th September because I shall be away on holiday. But I’ll make sure I leave you with something!
