Tuesday Treats: Down Berry Lane

25th September 2023 we visit Felbrigg Hall estate, and walk back to town along a full-berried and fungi-studded lane. Enjoy…

Holly: 25th September 2023

Bryony: 25th September 2023

25th September 2023

Such a rich medley of berries, totally amazed me

25th September 2023

It’s an old lane, as shown by how steep and high the banks

25th September 2023

We veer off, take a footpath, and cross the railway

25th September 2023

Surprised to see Cromer lighthouse from here!

25th September 2023

Cromer Hall looks old but it’s probably Victorian Gothic Revival. I like that it uses the local stone, i.e., flint.

Hope you enjoyed. We did. Though it was a hot day!

Sunday Picture Post: A Jacobean House

25th September 2023, second day of our holiday, we hopped on a bus, and ten minutes later the driver dropped us outside the gates of the C17th Felbrigg Hall. Our interest was the estate, which we’d wander around… and then walk back to Cromer, our holiday base.

25th September 2023

One half of the gatehouse, we take our time to explore the details…

25th September 2023

Then head down the verrry long lane…

25th September 2023

When we see a gate we believe we’re there. Hah!

25th September 2023

25th September 2023

We’re not surprised to see a very old tree…

25th September 2023

25th September 2023

The church…

25th September 2023

25th September 2023

The hall, complete with grazing sheep and cows…

25th September 2023

Part of the estate is a “great woods”. We’re not that impressed. Paved roads run through it, every which way…

25th September 2023

But we find a less structured path around the perimeter…

25th September 2023

The paths and tracks bring us back to where we started. Time to take the lane back into Cromer.

For those who want to know more about Felbrigg Hall

Hope you enjoyed

Summer’s Leaving

November 2019

Summer’s leaving
Colours changing
Leaves are dropping
Fall is here
Winds are blowing
Air is cooling
Winter’s vesper
Now I’m wishing
Spring’s warm whisper.

Stairway Down To Dreams

26th September 2023

The sun has set. Now the lamps light up to see you safely down to the shore.

CCC257: The Tides of Time

When Eadgyth returned from her pilgrimage to Jerusalem one memory of that land stood out the loudest. The huge, stone-built castles. She tried to describe them to her brother and sisters. But they had never seen and couldn’t envision them.

And so she built one of sand. But the flood-tide destroyed it.

“And will the tide of time destroy their castles as the sea has now destroyed yours?” her brother the cynic asked.

Tuesday Treats: Cromer Delights

A miscellany of photos from our week based at Cromer from 23rd to 29th September 2023, taken around the resort. Enjoy…

23rd September 2023

As we sipped wine on the patio…

23rd September 2023

Lampposts like this one feature in many of the photos this week!

24th September 2023

Spotted from the pier. In this shot it looks like a Black Throated Diver (a rare visitor to our coast) but in another shot (which was too distant) it looks more like a Red Throated. Either way, I was delighted!!!

24th September 2023

Gulls are ubiquitous around our coasts but I liked this shot of the bird tackling a crab…

24th September 2023

And this one, head into the business of preening…

24th September 2023

Wishing Stones suspended from the steps down to the beach

26th September 2023

The Humble Bumble getting busy with the pretty salt-tolerant Tamarisk

26th September 2023

Geese leaving us for the winter months…

28th September 2023

Bladderwrack is seldom seen on our east coast (where I live) but is abundant here on the north coast!

26th September 2023

The bedrock is chalk with deep seams of flint. That bedrock gets eroded and torn by the sea, the flint nodules thrown up on the beach. The colour comes from the high iron content of the sand

29th September 2023

Time to say goodbye to the gulls, the stones, the sand and the sea…

Hope you enjoyed.

Monday Extra: Cromer Boats

Just a quick intro to say these boats are owned by hard-grafting “everyday fishermen”, the usual catch being crabs and lobsters… as witness the first photo

25th September 2023

25th September 2023

Most of these were shot in the afterglow of Sunday’s sunrise

And not forgetting the most important Cromer boat…

I hope I haven’t bored you with my obsession for boats!

Sunday Picture Post: A Week Centred on Cromer

From 23rd September to 29th September we are based at Cromer on the North Norfolk coast. It’s a great place to travel out from every day, and a great place to stay. Here’s a selection of the photos taken around the resort. Hope you enjoy as much as we did…

23rd September 2023

We arrive… weather’s not so good. Yet it is dry.

24th September 2023

Sunday morning sunrise…

24th September 2023

Later that day…

24th September 2023

For those who remember my post about Trevor the Tractor’s Great Day Out… here he is, looking somewhat more rusted, but still trusted!

24th September 2023

24th September 2023

Cromer Pier with “end of pier” theatre, a great British institution!

24th September 2023

Later that day, the sun toddling down to sleep casts cliffs into shadow…

26th September 2023

Steps down those cliffs…

28th September 2023

The houses prove as colourful as the boats and sunrises…

28th September 2023

Looking down on the promenade, above the School Of Surfing. Gentle waves here, good for the novice…

28th September 2023

Looking eastward along the beach to Overstrand, which we’ll visit on the morrow…

29th September 2023

An early version of a Cromer Lifeboat displayed in the Henry Blogg Museum. Those guys who man the boats have been awarded so many medals for their bravery, including the George Cross. The communities along this coast value them highly.

Hope you enjoyed. In the coming weeks we’ll explore other places we visited.
