Sunday Picture Post: “Them Hills”, Part 2

28th November 2023 seems so long ago now, but so few our walks with such atrocious the weather. So here we go, Part 2

We enter the woodland…

28th November 2023

This tree fascinates me, in all her seasonal garbs

28th November 2023

The hills in places are steep, but they are not high…

28th November 2023

We choose the easiest route…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

A road crosses the hills, much used considering its minimum size!

28th November 2023

It takes us back down. We’re heading for the village…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

Delighted to see the oaks, so red in this light…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

And there is the river Wensum, swollen after so much rain

28th November 2023

And now to Taverham to catch a bus home…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

It’s been a magical day, with so much sun, and the wonderful autumnal colours. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Ding Dong Merrily

19th December 2023

I love bells, so not surprising they figure extravagantly in my Christmas decorations.

With Bells On, one of the titles from Maria Antonia’s #2023picofthe week

And with that, this… another line. With just one Saturday left to 2023, clearly I shan’t be claiming another!

Solstice Fire

My photo

Solstice morning. But Jill still had her chores. First was to fetch the water. It was still dark when she collected the bucket, slipped her feet into the wooden-soled shoes and clattered across the frosted cobbles to the well.

The catch to the cover was frozen. Jill breathed long and hard on it and still it wouldn’t budge. Wretched freezing weather.

But when she turned and saw the sun’s Solstice rays on the window, suddenly she wasn’t so cold.

Friday Fungi

Alas, my fungi lovers, this might be the last Friday Fungi for 2023. They really are fast deteriorating. Just the odd one cropping up now. But let’s enjoy what we have…

28th November 2023

Roadside fungi beneath clipped hedges…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

And then on a part-hidden log, a little delight!

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

And back to the roadside fungi…

28th November 2023

Like little lamps in the shadows…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

And into the woodland…

28th November 2023

Perhaps there’ll be a few more next week. Perhaps I’ll put them amongst the Tuesday Treats

See you then!

CCC267: A Swanly Paragon

Charlie was what you’d call an annoying swan
Looking for fights
Aggravating
Raising his wings and saying
“Yea? So come on!”
Such an irksome swan
His brothers, uncles, aunts and so on
Tolerance lost
Cast on him scorn
“Hiss!” they said
Loudly in unison
Go away and don’t come back
Till you’ve learnt to be a paragon.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #267

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it.

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Tuesday Treats

I have no pretty flowers, no startling leaves, this week. And so for this week’s Tuesday Treat, this…

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

AUTHOR UPDATE

Way, way back (it seems like another time) in 2018, I decided to publish the stories I had previously posted in weekly instalments on WordPress.

I thank all those who have volunteered to beta read for me. And those who have read and written reviews.

Book Number Ten

Goes live on Amazon on 1st January 2024

The King’s WifeBook 3 of Alsaldic Lands Trilogy

My 10th book. Gosh. Breathe.

Where It Began

The five books of The Spinner’s Game… plus one.

I cannot express the depth of my gratitude to my critique partner and cover design, Lauren Willmore. She’s brilliant. And so supportive. Though we haven’t always agreed on plot!

Roots of Rookeri

Then came a standalone. A little bit of fun and adventure

The Alsaldic Lands Trilogy

The Alsaldic Lands Trilogy is part of the Spinner’s Cycle. I posted only two of these stories on WordPress. Hare and Adder had not been seen until earlier this year.

And now that trilogy is complete.

So What’s Next?

I’m working on book No 11. It will be mythic fantasy, as are the others. But as with Roots of Rookeri, it will be a  standalone. More than that, for now I will not say. Too soon.

You can find details of all these books on my dedicated page: Books

Or through these quick links to Amazon

Spinner’s Child
Lake of Dreams
The Pole That Threads
Lady Of First Making
The Spinner’s Sin
Learning To Fly
Roots Of Rookeri
Hare And Adder
Alsalda Bear
The King’s Wife

Sunday Picture Post: Heading To Those Them Hills

28th November 2023 we hop a bus to Norwich, and another bus out. We’re headed to Ringland Hills. Not sure if we’ll find fungi, but we ought to find colour. And we do…

28th November 2023

Rain preceded us, but it’s clearing now, creating veils over Wensum Vale. And the sun is struggling to appear…

28th November 2023

And where rain and sun meets…

28th November 2023

Finally our oaks are showing their autumnal colours…

28th November 2023

In fact, every tree is dressed in autumn colour…

28th November 2023

No muddy tracks for us today. Yay!

28th November 2023

Beehive Lodge, my favourite place along this lane…

28th November 2023

Not everyone has swans outside the garden gate! And there’s not just one…

28th November 2023

28th November 2023

And the mallards call us: They also swam!

28th November 2023

A glimpse through the autumnal foliage of the hills where we’re heading…

28th November 2023

Here the woodland dips down to the road, inviting us in…

28th November 2023

The sentinel. Birch is the first coloniser of future woodlands. Oak soon follows. But though we’ve the invite, we’re stopping here for something to bite. Second half next week!

Hope you enjoyed.

Right Before Your Very Eyes

28th November 2023

Last walk of November, we hopped off the bus and… right before our eyes, this wondrous sight!
