The Show Must Go On

I loved working in the theatre. Not that it was always fun. Such as when the owners needed my secretarial skills and gave dictation ‘by committee’ – such confusion that could be. And then there was acting P.A. to visiting performers, especially of the star quality.

I remember one such ‘star’ who urgently needed meds else he couldn’t perform that night. For vertigo? I thought that had something to do with heights. Apparently not. I organised the meds from my GP. The show must go on.

Sunday Picture Post: Return to Norfolk (Lound Part 2)

21st September 2024, we’ve bused to Hopton, south of the county border, to walk back via Lound Lakes nature reserve. Last week we left the walk at the main lake. Now we resume. Please join us

21st September 2024

The morning mist stretches over the water

21st September 2024

In winter the lake is busy with ducks and geese, but not yet, just a swan all alone

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

This lake is available for fishing. It forms part of the local water company’s reservoir. The steep sides are wooded in pine

21st September 2024

After a short climb we’re back in arable country, and Norfolk

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

Nearing the end of the walk, and again the mist lingers on

21st September 2024

It’s not a deep woodland, the sun shines through it!

21st September 2024

And out of the woods to catch the bus because I’m still a few miles from home.

Hope you enjoyed

Lost Amongst The Mosses

Lost amongst the lichens and the mosses
She opens her petals, the day to grace
We don’t know her name
But all the same
That little white flower’s more precious than finest lace

A miscellany of photos from our walk 21st September 2024 in the order they came off my camera. Can you match them to the photos in Sunday Picture Post? Regardless, enjoy…

Yellow toadflax, a reliable late flowerer

21st September 2024

Flowers amidst the mosses and lichens

21st September 2024

Where there is water…

Sunday Picture Post: A Short Hop South of the Border

21st September 2024 looked like it would be a good walking day so, hop on bus – and hop off again over the county border at Hopton. We’re to walk back to Great Yarmouth via the nature reserve at Lound Lakes. Please join us…

21st September 2024

Lound Lakes were formed the same way as the Broads, as peat diggings that then flooded. The difference? These are in a river valley. So we see the sun cresting the rim

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

Wherever the soil is damp, there you’ll find the alder tree!

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

There is a constructed ‘dry’ path through this wet woodland at the tail-end of the watercourse otherwise this swamp would be impassable

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

I love looking back…

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

The early morning mist clings to the trees, reluctant to relinquish its clasp

21st September 2024

21st September 2024

A sun-scorched meadow… once the sun rises above the trees. First half of walk – the walkway that crosses the main lake.

21st September 2024

We’ll leave our walk here and return to complete it next week.

Hope you enjoyed.

This October Morn

5th October 2024

Ho hum, don’t be glum
It might be cold
Yeah, it’s cold
But that sun is bold
Gonna keep me warm
This October morn
While I shop for groceries

Adventure Deliverers

Mikey and me
We went down to the dyke
To find us a boat
To put out to sea
But every boat there
So it would appear
Were intended only to ply the rivers
None were proper sea-fearing adventure-deliverers
And so with no sea to roam
Mikey and me
We sauntered home
