Not all fungi like to flash their colours. Some are shy babies, not even content to lie disguised amidst autumn leaves.
These camera-shy fungi were hiding in the deep shadows beneath the roots of a wind-blown tree. But lucky for me the sun then shone! I shall say nothing of the dirty knees and the crick in the neck and the various nasties that also were there. A photographer must suffer for her craft!
It’s rare for the typical snow-scene to happen along the east coast of Norfolk, though it happens plenty inland. So rather than wait … #2018picoftheweek: Winter
A wish for stillness … To travel inwards … To hold to goodness … Embrace with love
This, with Season’s Greetings, I wish to those who follow this blog, with special affection for those who have helped me so much this year. No need to name you, you know who you are!
For those who are interested, my sister emailed the basic photo taken of the frost on her car windscreen. Twenty-five miles away, I was enjoying a warm sunny day!
I played with it, tweaked it, helped it to pop. And made of it something … jewel-like. I’d been looking for an image to accompany this wish. Between my sister and I, we came up with something that fit.
An hour before sunset on a hot August day
mists rise, hints of tangerine, apricot kisses
still waters beneath, spread in negative echoes
a leaden flow into mercury pools.

Welcome to my weekly challenge—open to all—just for FUN, FUN, FUN
Here’s how it works:
Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE
Here are some suggestions:
You have plenty of scope, and only two criteria:
If you link your post to this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
If you tag it #CCC others should be able to find it by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)
Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN.
Details of the photo are given, if relevant, below this line
If you think you’ve seen the photo before, I did use one similar for the title Sunset in the #2018picoftheweek challenge. This is Breydon Water, all that remains of the one time Great Estuary; it hides away at the back of Great Yarmouth.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve chosen the more fragile, ephemeral fungi to post on a Sunday. But that can’t be said of this week’s specimen. Its name? Nah, some kind of bracket.
What I like about this sturdy fella is how the older growths have taken on the patterning of the host log. It’s almost as if they’re all made of wood.
Year’s end approaching, I’m left with titles not so easy to fill. So you’ll forgive me if this one isn’t so obvious.
As my dear old mum used to say: They’re happy as pigs in muck.
#2018picoftheweek challenge: Happiness
Don’t you just love these piggies. Fields of pigs are a frequent sight on my walks.
There wasn’t a kid in the village who didn’t know about the Green Lady who haunted the tower. Just a tale to scare us kids, to keep inquisitive noses out of an old building no longer safe. Right? Yet it made us more curious. As we braved ourselves to enter the dark woods which surrounded the part-demolished old hall, I fleshed out the skeletal tale, made the lady a green witch who lay in wait for us amongst those deep-shadowed trees. Scared, my friends raced for the road, left me. Alone.
When, as an adult, I read the history of that Elizabethan hall I discovered the truth of the legend: that lady wore green as a sign she was Catholic.
