Up the hill, set to the side,
Is a camp, a gypsy camp.
To there this morning I dare
To take my Dickie fresh baked bread
To show my love that I care.
Just after I took this photo I met with a woman leading a horse, a gypsy cob. According to my grandfather, a horse breeder and dealer, these were ‘dickies’, though I think that’s just a generic Norfolk term for a horse.
Enchanting photo and beautiful verse.

Yes, I love the verse with the photo. I can imagine the gypsy camp in my mind’s eye.

I thank you. This is a part of Norfolk I’m particularly fond of. Actually, I’m especially fond of it all. 🙂

I can see why – magical.

Yea, I’d say it is. Despite Norwich (its county seat) was second only to London in the Middle Ages, with it serenely wending rivers it missed out on the Industrial Revolution, and hence has remained mostly unspoiled.

Yes, that’s the beauty – unspoiled and therefore still seeping in it mystical past.

Since this is Boudicca country, there’s probably echoes of a druidical tradition,. Though Odin & co must also feature, since this area hosts the earliest evidence of Anglo-Saxons. In folklore Old Shuck reigns supreme (huge black dog of Germanic origin), and everywhere are stories of headless horsemen (suggests Celtic warriors) Then again, at a more ancient level are stories of water spirits in the form of snake-tailed ladies, abductors of lustful lads.
But to ignore the stories and go by feel, yes, this place of slow wending rivers, of fen and broad, is a magical land, existing in almost all its parts in that inbetween liminal space and time. Here it’s always Halloween. Or at least potentially. As to the trees … there are a few that don’t bear faces; many cleary are transfigured witches. Indeed, true, I have photos of them!

BTW, I ought to have added that such old country tales began as someone’s long ago spiritual practice.

Which is probably why I’m drawn to your photos and stories of this place…

And perhaps my love of the local places seeps through the stories and photos.

I thank you, Dale.
I try to keep it crisp, and always on the day after the prompt, to allow others to post first.

As I will do, when I participate, as I do FF and I don’t like to multi-post…

Oh, you mean those who appear in the Reader with 4 or 5 posts in one day. No, I like to keep mine to no more than one a day.

Worse, the ones I get an email for every post… only 2 “multi-posters” have I kept as they often comment on mine, the others, I removed notifications. Like dudes, really?

See, I have mine set so I only get emails to notify me of comments, either on my posts, or on comments I’ve made on others. But occasionally one creeps in.

Well… I have chosen to get the emails from those I don’t want to miss… like yours 😉
However… when I open up my email and I have five – FIVE! from one blogger… I pick one to read and chuck the others.

Yea, I know what you mean. One has a life. Though I think some do not. But then, isn’t that sad? I wonder if they might tied into boxes by age? Oops, that’s not nice of me.

It is bloody annoying, to tell the truth. Then I feel bad about unsubscribing, so instead I just remove the notifications… I still follow but don’t see ’em unless I go to my Reader which is quasi-never.
And, nice or no, I think there is definitely a corollary or connection…

Yea. The social media addiction. Life’s not worth living if you’re not getting ‘Like’s and ‘Follow’s’. The Millennials. A shame, and probably unduced by our own generation. Not me, you understand. And I’m sure not you. 🙂

Social media addition is strong…
And yeah… me too… I like to say no, but I’d be lying through my teeth.
However, that said, I have reduced big time because it’s ridiculous to realise just how much we are pulled…

I suppose when I first started to blog I got a kick out of likes etc. But I’d such a small following, if anyone checked out a post I wet my knickers.
Now, the numbers have grown since I began to participate with the challenges. And I follow everyone who does the CCC. So, loads of posts to check everyday.
As my dear friend says (follower since day one) I’m no longer the Norfolk Hermit. But back in those days I had my reasons, debilitated with CFS. Wouldn’t say boo to goose, trembled just to go out of the door. And that had never been me. Big change to reach that start. big reversal to reclaim myself.
But hey, here I am. Sometimes it feels like I’m born anew.
That’s enough of that. I’m about to plunge my hands into hot sudsy water. I wonder what inspiration awaits me? 🙂

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to deal with CFS. Thank goodness you had the energy to blog, at least!
And I know what you mean about getting all excited at the first ‘like’ and/or comment.
Looking forward to whatever inspiration awaits you now that you’re re-born…

I must admit, that poorly wasn’t me; tempting to disengage myself, deny it. Yet the transformation, the tsunami of energy, and just be changing my diet. I went to paleo, now the recognised treatment, but this was at year before that was known. I needed to bring my sugar levels down. How to do that? Quit sugar and any non-useful carbs. But how to quit fruit. Slowly the blood sugar, and the weight went back on. So now I’m on keto (even more drastic on carbs.) But it works. And I’m active. And I have a life.

That’s beautiful, and with Dickie I learned a new word. 🙂 BTW, I read your exchange with Dale, and I am similarly annoyed by mega-multi-posters, but: some people do this for a living and depend on a large crowd and much content, so there might be a reason for that. Or not… 🙂

I felt bad after going public on that. I wouldn’t want to upset any of my followers, and some do fall into what I consider the excessive category. But no one’s gone into a huff over it yet.
