Sunday Fungi: Kept in the Dark

After the fantastical fungi forms of late, I give you a typical mushroom shape. It’s name? So many it could be that I won’t hazard the guess.

Like clustered lights aglow in the dark in a hollow log

Art Decor

I walk past this doorway on my every return from the shops, and always it catches my eye.

A touch of Art Decor on Great Yarmouth’s Old Fire Station: 31st December 2019

The Old Fire Station has long since been replaced, and the building converted into residential apartments.

I claim it as Detail, another title achieved in Maria’s Antonia’s #2020picoftheweek

CCC64: The Elders

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #64

“What’s that?”

“What’s what?”

I nodded at the structure. “Them.”

“Oh, them. Them’s the Elders.”

“What elders?”

“The Elders that were here before we came.”

“But nothing was here before we came.”

“The Elders were here.”

I looked at her. She was joshing me, yea? “When?”

“In the Elder Times; when else, of course.”

I didn’t believe her. There was nought but a mud-bank here before we came.

Because to me, they look like three elders, with heads together, discussing what now to do with the town. Though I suppose they could be wishbones. The giant Roc perhaps?

Behind the Garden Shed

Imps being impish, sneaking away with a shroom… image by Hans Braxmeier on pixabay

I knew a family of imps when I was a kid
Lived behind the garden shed
My folks never saw them
Cos whenever they looked the imps promptly hid

I’d talk to them often though they’d rather play
Games vicious and tormenting
Left me with bruises and welts
That for endless days wouldn’t go away

They told me their names, they suited them well
Peccable, Perious and Pervious
Peccable nipped and pinched
Left me with lumps that then would swell

Pervious… shh, I shouldn’t be telling you this
Had desires beyond my young ken
He’d whip out his wazzy and… you know
But he swiftly tucked it when I gave him a kiss

As for the grandiose notions of Imp Perious… enough said.

Sunday Fungi: The Blob

No, not the classic sci-fi movie, but probably the most un-fungus-looking fungus, White Brain (Exidia thuretiana)

White Brain, one of the jellies…

Well I did promise you a potential alien… 🙂

The Wall

There is a wall around our town, which aptly fits Maria’s Antonia’s #2020picoftheweek challenge title of Around Town.

Of the many intact stretches of the wall, I picked this one cos… well, seems someone might be living there.

The wall dates to 1261 when King Henry III granted Great Yarmouth the right to enclose the town… against the danger of pirates!

CCC#63: A Picture of Me?

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #63

Who? Me? You want to make a picture of me?

Ow, but that’s… a-maaazing. Me? Are you sure you want me?

And I suppose you’ll want me to smile?

Oh dear. No, you’ll have to come back in a while.

Why? Because can’t you see? I’m naked. You’ll have to wait for a new coat to grow.

I don’t often do cute but… isn’t he sweet! 🙂

For an increasing number of British farmers the alpaca has become the go-to for wool production. The alpaca’s fibres fetch a much higher price than common old sheep. But its still a rare sight in our countryside.

Mr McGoo

image by Adina Voicu on pixabay

Mr McGoo supped too much brew
It’s true, phew, he hadn’t a clue
He slumped on the pew with only one shoe
Ignored all the fuss, looking askew
Till sobered anew
