Fungi Friday

21st November, the day was dull, the light was dim. Not the best conditions for seeking fungi on the dark woodland floor. We bused to Norwich and bused out again to Hethel. Most of our planned route would be on road; any fungi found would be on the grassy verges…we thought

21st November 2022

But there are always hedgerow-trees growing a bracket or two

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

And roadside copses…

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

But deep ditches held us away from the best

21st November 2022

The return route was through Hethel Great Wood…

21st November 2022

By then the sun was trying to shine

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

Our delight, the trooping wood-eaters!

21st November 2022

21st November 2022

And back to searching the grassy verges…

21st November 2022

With the colder winter weather the fungi season is approaching an end. But not yet.

CCC215: Jack and His Sprites

I woke that morn
Before the dawn
And wondered at the world turned light
What magic was this wrought overnight?
The work of Jack and his Sprites!

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #215

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

I Am The Spinner

image by Victoria Models on pixabay

I was the light when all was dark
I was the air that fed the spark
I danced a dozen reeling dances
And drew a dozen stolen glances
From a dozen star-made beasts
At a dozen solar feasts
I am the spinner, the weaver too
The ladle that dips into the cauldron true
I am above and yet below
From me all Life does flow
I am not woman neither man
But name me if you can
I am the Spinner’s Game

On this Solstice Day, I give my thanks to you who’ve bought my books

Sunday Picture Post: Fritton Woods

14th November the day starts with thick mist, though it’s clearing by the time we get off the bus.

14th November 2022

We have to walk a mile or so from bus stop to woods along a sandy lane…passing this

14th November 2022

And into woods…

14th November 2022

14th November 2022

This is a pine plantation. But silver birch is everywhere…especially where the pines have been felled over recent years

14th November 2022

14th November 2022

14th November 2022

14th November 2022

The plantation abuts the marshland through which the River Waveney flows…and so as we near that edge we find old drains, such a contrast with the otherwise sandy heathland

14th November 2022

14th November 2022

After recent heavy rainfall…the erosion

14th November 2022

And it’s back along that sandy lane to catch a bus home

14th November 2022

Hope you’ve enjoyed. Check out Tuesday Treats for a few colourful details…

Gold on a Misty Morning

14th November 2022

The day is misty, autumnal colours muted. But here is a gorse bush with its mist-dripping flowers. What a way to brighten the day

When Menopause Calls

image by Erika Wittlieb on pixabay

“I’m hot,” she said and moved away.

But away from his heat she was cold.

“Come cuddle,” he said, and she returned to his arms.

But a few minutes of that and she was too hot and again moved away only, again, to feel uncomfortably cold.

“Come here,” he beckoned, his warm arms open and inviting.

But a few minutes and again she moved away.

“Heck, why can’t you find the right place, always moving? What’d you call that?”

“Perpetual dynamic equilibrium?” she said.

CCC214: Hey-Ho!

Hey-ho, hey-ho
Across that tree we go
We’ve heard the bell’s brassy chime
Telling us it’s now school time
So put away that muddy ball
And you be careful you don’t fall!

Inspired by my father’s memory. There used to be stepping stones here when he was at the village school. He remembers the kids kicking around a ball and waiting for the school bell to call. I wonder how many times they arrived in class with wet feet!
