What an Achievement

18th January 2024

When walking the camera I seldom pass by a church without investigating. Most often they’re locked. This one wasn’t…which was most welcome since half-hour of clicking camera in sub-zero temps had frozen my fingers into icy lumps. So of course, I took photos while warming myself.

I claim this for Interior, my first title of #2024picofthemonth, as set at Of Maria Antonia

BTW an Achievement is an heraldic term referring to all the elements of a coat of arms.

Thusi the Magician

24th January 2024

The sun as it crested the valley caught Thusi still filling his water flasks at the designated pool. It wasn’t that the water was low but that he kept losing his purpose in the turmoil that spilled from the depths of his being. A wonder the pool hadn’t waves, so many his sighs.

CCC272: I Thought I Saw…

I thought I saw a puddy cat
Looking up at me
I did, a marmalade, thin cut
Sweet and sweet can be
Where was he from?
Had he lost his home?
Might I adopt him?
Alas, one look at me
And he was gone.

Most of the ice has gone but this lingers on

9th January 2024

Great Egret… looking great!

Long-tailed tit amongst the alder. These little birds are such speedy flitters, it’s a delight to catch this shot. I’ve been trying for years!

Hazel catkins. Yay. Spring’s trying so hard to appear

9th January 2024

Irresistible colour caught by the sun

More remnants of the earlier frost

Sunday Picture Post: In a Biting Wind

9th January 2024, first walk of the year, and it’s a tad cold, and the wind is howling. But we’ve been promised sunshine. So hats, gloves and thermals on, and let’s go. We’re headed to Whitlingham Country Park. Although we expect some flooding, at least we know we’ll see swans!

The bus drops us a mile or so from the park, so first thing we see is…

9th January 2024

You know I love tractors. And John Deere are the best

9th January 2024

We decide to stop off at Trowse church, so many times ignored in our keenness to reach the water…

9th January 2024

The early morning sun paints this majestic tree…

9th January 2024

Here at the Country Park the first (small) lake has flooded its sides, but the path is passable. Or so we think. But  just beyond this corner is a wide and deep flooding, so we double back to find another way through

9th January 2024

9th January 2024

You know it’s cold when the cormorants prefer to roost in the tree

9th January 2024

Spectacle Geese… walk like an Egyptian

9th January 2024

I could fill 3 posts with photos of these swans. They’re such showoffs

9th January 2024

And the light is just right

9th January 2024

9th January 2024

We wanted to circumambulate the lake but this isn’t the only stretch impassable without thigh-high waders. And so we decide to head for the woods. We’ll pick up that trail next Sunday.

Hope you enjoyed.

Problems at the Foundational School For All Things Grey

credit: Anemone123, Pixabay

Now listen to this, guys—no, no, quieten down, I’ve something important to say.
And so began Melinda Black’s day
Head teacher at the Foundational School of All Things Grey
It wasn’t easy to get their attention
Even when she threatened detention
Being ‘greys’ they hadn’t much factual retention
They tended to dilly and dally and all together sway
So, she said, okay
Just take notes
And proceeded to download the quotes

CCC271: The Race Was On

Ivy and Sunflower agreed to have a race. Who could reach the sky first.

Ivy was slow at the off, while Sunflower shot up, way ahead.

But then came the storm – which laid Sunflower flat.

Meanwhile, Ivy lazily climbed.

And climbed.

And climbed.

Yay! Just like the tortoise, Ivy won the race.

A few more pics from our walk on 28th December 2023. Enjoy

28th December 2023

Some say bullrush, some say reedmace, we could argue all day

28th December 2023

No disputing this: This is reed in seed

28th December 2023

When all are shades of beige and fawn, a little emerald makes the day

28th December 2023

Thankful to find more colour in the village…

28th December 2023

28th December 2023

A cluster of green hiding from the wind at Burgh Castle

28th December 2023

I’d like to tell you what birds these are, but not a good enough shot to i.d. them

Hope you enjoyed our last walk of 2023. Next week, our first walk of 2024…and it was a sunny day!
