A Judgement Portentous

7th November 2022

He had glad news, he did declare
And gathered everyone round to hear
The jury had agreed
Felling trees only fed their greed
Was a judgement quite portentous
The moment truly momentous

CCC212: Hush, A Miracle

Hush. Be quiet. Stand still and watch
Witness this inspiring little sight
A young pine tree is growing
Reaching up
To bathe in the rays of the autumnal sun
Dryads spin strong in the magenta light
Clearing a space for when the growing’s begun
See how the bracken pulls back
Clears the way
Hush. Be quiet.
We’ll witness a miracle this day

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #212

Here’s how it works:

Every Wednesday I post a photo (this week it’s that one above.)
You respond with something CREATIVE

Here are some suggestions:

  • An answering photo
  • A cartoon
  • A joke
  • A caption
  • An anecdote
  • A short story (flash fiction)
  • A poem
  • A newly minted proverb, adage or saying
  • An essay
  • A song—the lyrics or the performance

You have plenty of scope and only two criteria:

  • Your creative offering is indeed yours
  • Your writing is kept to 150 words or less

If you post a link in the comments section of this post I’ll be able to find it
If you include Crimson’s Creative Challenge as a heading, WP Search will find it (theory)
by ‘Searching’ in the WP Reader (fingers crossed)

Here’s wishing you inspirational explosions. And FUN

Sunday Picture Post: Burlingham Woods

31st October dawned misty but with a promise of sun. So, early bus out to Acle, and from Acle via tight lanes and farm-tracks to Burlingham. These photos are from the first part of the walk. Enjoy

31st October 2022

The lane leads us between ploughed and sown fields

31st October 2022

The lane widens as it becomes a farm-track

31st October 2022

A small plantation of mostly native fruit trees has been planted over recent years…and a seat added for the walker’s enjoyment (but perhaps not today!)

31st October 2022

At the open centre of the plantation knapweed and teasel vie for the sun’s attention. Guess the teasel wins!

31st October 2022

The plantation is screened by birch…

31st October 2022

And here we must skirt a field

31st October 2022

And another farm-track

31st October 2022

Love how the sun defines those lines…

31st October 2022

Finally, our shoes muddy, we arrive at the woods

31st October 2022

31st October 2022

The painted posts are what remains of a pre-Covid project by the local schools and various youth groups to make the “Burlingham Henge”! They ring around that mighty oak. A shame the sun isn’t reaching here.

31st October 2022

And here we leave the walk. To be continued next week. Hope you enjoyed.

Heraldic Devices

21st November 2022

This heraldic device is called an Achievement, and it records all the noble in-laws of the deceased. The red hand denotes a baronnet. Thus a person’s genealogy is displayed. I found this in Hethel church where the deceased was buried. Alas, I’m unable to decipher it.

I claim this as Family Time, another title from the list Maria Antonia has given us for #2022picoftheweek

He Vowed

Image by Brigitte Werner on pixabay

Drenched in the downpour
He crouched at the centre of the ancient henge
He mate, his partner, his wife bleeding and leaking out her life
His teeth clenched, his emotions wrenched, his heart in pain
From the wedge that hammered harder than the rain
He vowed – he pledged – with words hatred-entrenched
He would drive her killer to the edge
Every wilding river dredged
He’d not once rest till he had his revenge.
