Green Grows the Leaves of Spring

22nd March 2022

She had grown
Oh my, how she’d grown
But up, not out or down
I feared she’d never now fit in her gown
A new outfit for her
A dress all in shades of green
The most beautiful dapple ever seen
No scrimping, no cutting tight
No disregard of the final sight
From her roots, nothing cropped
Up, up, to her very treetop

CCC225: On Matters of Divorce

Mary at the churchyard gate
Watching the sun, cos he is late
Said he’d marry her at noon
But she’ll divorce him if he’s not here soon

Crimson’s Creative Challenge # 225

Tuesday Treats: February Delights

A few photos of flowers and colours seen on our first walk of the month (6th February). Enjoy!

February, the month when hazel catkins catch the sun…

6th February 2023

When snowdrops are everywhere…

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

Sometimes we find them mixed in with winter aconite. Always a special delight

6th February 2023

And red deadnettles…though those will remain until the harshness of winter finally kills them

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

And here’s another that makes its appearance this month: Lord and Ladies, a close kin of the Arum Lily

6th February 2023

Last year’s fruits remain…Rose Hips, no longer enticing

6th February 2023

Last year’s bramble leaves lend welcome colour…

6th February 2023

So too the copper of beech leaves…

6th February 2023

And daffodils make an unexpected early appearance…

6th February 2023

And even more unexpected, though barely visible amongst the scrub…

6th February 2023

That’s all for now folks. Hope you enjoyed

Sunday Picture Post: By Road and Lane to Loddon

It’s been raining much of late; fields are sodden, farm tracks deep in puddles. Time to take to the roads. We bus to Norwich, and then out to Brooke, from where we’re walking to the double town of Chedgrave and Loddon. Please, join us…

You see we’ve good weather for this, but it is exceedingly cold

6th February 2023

A thin mist lingers over the meadows

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

Walking by road and lane we get to see the thatched houses…

6th February 2023

And barns…

6th February 2023

Bergh Apton church…

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

We find a dry track that takes us around a woodland, and for a while, away from the road

6th February 2023

And soon we find ourselves climbing out of the Chet Valley…

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

And here we are on the river Chet; Chedgrave one side, Loddon the other. Here’s where we’ll catch the bus home

6th February 2023

6th February 2023

Hope you’ve enjoyed this sun-filled day. We did, despite the cold.

Soaring High

6th February 2023

This land we share with many a beast, but the sky belongs to the birds alone.

Tick Tock

image by Gerd Altmann on Pixabay

Hearing the clock
The slow tick-tock
The minute-by-minute
Move of the hands
Inexorable, the slip of the sands
Countdown to tragedy
Oh woe, alas, what’s to become of me
A noose awaits me on the morrow
A noose that will end all my sorrow
Tick tock
My world you rocked
Tick tock
When my earnest offer you mocked
Tick tock
All future happiness blocked
With your one word
Marry?
You?
Don’t be absurd
Raised to bliss
Just for this
Plummet into a dark abyss
Never more light
This hour hand
Marks the final midnight

CCC224: Lost Without Bells

They’ve taken away my bells.
But who to point my finger at
Who to cast into ten depths of hell?
And tell me
How’s my beloved Esmeralda to seduce with her dancing
Without the bells I used to ring?

Tuesday Treats: A Winter Water-Meadow

30th January, the second part of our walk takes us out of town and into a fenland landscape, a place that’s probably best in early summer. But at least we have the sun!

30th January 2023

The colour of alder…

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

Hazel catkins…

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

We think of winter as being colourless…these trees prove otherwise!

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

Water and grass together always adds colour

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

30th January 2023

And we finish with a plant that has year-round interest

30th January 2023

That’s all for now folks. And where will I take you next week? We’ll see…
