Squaring a Circle

5th May dawned magnificently bright and clear. Yet forecasts warned of a thunderstorm in early afternoon. We decided not to go too far from home, instead we circled the town: through the churchyard, down to seafront, along the beach, a cut across a housing estate to Bure Park beside River Bure, and back to home. Here we go…

5th May 2023

St Nicholas church, Gt Yarmouth

5th May 2023

5th May 2023

5th May 2023

5th May 2023

Looking south along the beach…

5th May 2023

Looking east…

5th May 2023

Keeping a weather-eye landward…

5th May 2023

Retreat to the park…

5th May 2023

The park has everything… trees

5th May 2023

Water…and a swan’s nest…

5th May 2023

Cosy grassy glades…

5th May 2023

And white poplars alongside the Bure

And by the look of that sky, we might just make it home in time!

Flying the Flag

5th May 2023

With the coronation of King Charles III imminent, the town was hung with flags (ok, a few were flying). So when I saw this I assumed it was one belonging to our royal family (btw this is the reverse view). But when I got home and googled it, it belongs to a Bavarian Brewery: Weihenstephaner and probably bears the heraldic arms of Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria. But it’s still a flag and still starts with ‘F’.

Starts with ‘F’: one of the titles from Maria Antonia’s #2023picofthe week

Hoop-la
Tyre off a car
Spinning in air
Landing far.

Bend in road
Misbalanced load
I should have read

Sunday Picture Post: Woods, Lakes and Lanes

26th April, seems so long ago. A good day, weather-wise. Out early, we’re walking from outskirts of town to the next village along via woods, lakes and lanes. And everywhere, the flowers are glorious (see Tuesday Treats)

As we enter the woods we think we’ve lucked out. Too late for bluebells?

26th April 2023

Of course not!

26th April 2023

26th April 2023

26th April 2023

We take loads more photos than this but by now you must have seen enough of them. We leave the woods and walk the lanes (a different route to our usual)

26th April 2023

You notice the slight hill? We’re not in Norfolk any more, but south of the border in Suffolk where mills seen in the distance once ground grain, not pumped water

26th April 2023

We leave the lane and head to the lake

26th April 2023

The lake, glimpsed between trees and edged with reed and gorse

26th April 2023

A footbridge enables a crossing…and a closer look

26th April 2023

No duck nor geese, just a moorhen that quickly hides from us

26th April 2023

26th April 2023

And back to the lanes to head to the village for the next bus home

26th April 2023

Just in time, the weather is changing

Hope you enjoyed. More next week
