13th September 2023. After a day of torrential rain, the heatwave that has gripped our little land has finally broken. We venture again into the (formerly hot) interior!!! Bus to Norwich. Bus to Long Stratton.

A Sacred Place In A Foreign Land

Today, the Norfolk village is best known as the home of Lotus Cars. But it wasn’t always so. Beneath Lotus Cars is the airfield that was home to United States Air Force during World War II. And they are remembered and honoured still.

We think these are cherry-plums. When ripe, extremely edible. Lovely wayside food. They used to be a crop-fruit until EU ruled against them.

Walking Out To The Old Mill

A Cottage By The Common

In the Old English way of place-names, a “green” was a common more often wet that dry. As with all commons, they attracted people to set up home around them, where free grazing and access to firewood and nature’s goodies were close to hand
