Boredom
The bane of my existence
Where’s the challenge, the excitement
Every day, this sameness
Bereft
Since you left
I long to expire
Be buried in a cold earthen grave
For with my ungodliness it’ll never be beneath the church nave
I long for a stake
Driven deep into my heart
Since we’re apart
To rapidly end this vapid existence.
60 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Vapid

Oh this is so poignant Crispina

It’s very subtle, but she’s a vampire, living through the centuries, alone.
It’s all in these lines:
For with my ungodliness it’ll never be beneath the church nave
I long for a stake
Driven deep into my heart

It’s kind of cool to be shown this human side of a vampire.

I explored the negative side of extreme longevity when writing Spinner’s Game series

That is something to consider when becoming a vampire or writing about one for sure.

Before I started on the Spinner series I wrote a short piece as narrated by one of the immortal characters. I might post that sometime

There’s a 2012 movie, “Byzantium,” in which the attitude of vampires who lives for centuries gets some examination. You might like it. (Note that the “Byzantium” in the title does not mean any of the movie takes place in Istanbul.)

I think this is something that Anne Rice does in her vampire books (yet, I did read the series in its entirety, though only cos my daughter kept buying them!)

I believe so, although it’s been a long time since I read just the first of the series.

Eeesh… Poor bugger. Then again, I imagine “living” forever would become ho hum after a few hundred years or so…

It’s something I play with in the Spinner’s series. Kerrid tells her offspring to find a craft they can devote their long lives to… which is why they have developed technology ahead of we common or garden humanity!
