He lived in the attic
Though only I knew he was there
When the family went out
He would move about
He came to my room
He played with my comb
Fascinated with it
For hours he’d hold it
I ought to have hidden that comb
For when I slept he’d weave and tangle my hair, as if working a loom
Though now I remember him, an annoying bugbear
Yet to me he was dear
