Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Tell that to the queens
(in whichever sense I mean)
Witness the bucks they spend
On eyeliners, shadows, blushers
And all the other enhancers
As if that is the answer
And ladies too as they grow older
Afraid of disappearing
They get bolder
Slapping on slap and risking derision
When it’s truer to trust to the beholder’s vision

This old ‘queen’ is over all the paint- take me as I am or not at all! Loved this.

Brilliant. I was aware I could be insulting some folks. Glad you’re not one of them

I got spoiled wearing a mask during Covid! Since then, I have no interest in makeup. Excellent poem.

Thank you. I think a lot of women have had that reaction. Which is no bad thing

This is great Crispina – I have gone from using makeup, I think, as the skin ages it looks worse with loads of makeup 😊

I remember seeing my mother’s face with makeup when she was about my age. I think of it every time I see the cracked earth in a drought! 😂

Brilliant, my friend! It is difficult to not succumb to the demands of the beauty industry. Well, it was difficult to once upon a time. Methinks the beholder tells true.

Thank you, Dale. I had to resist due to allergies. Older now, I sometimes think a thick coating of plaster might fill in the cracks and return my face to the smoothness of youth. Alternatively, I play with the camera!

Cake-filled faces are not attractive. Anyway, you don’t need it. You’ve a lovely one with beautiful skin!

You flatter. You’ve only seen me in photos, and I’m a photographer! But it is true, most people remark on it when seeing me irl
