This week the soaring temperatures have kept me housebound. So it’s just as well I’ve archives to call on. Here’s a walk from 13th June 2022. I know I’ve shared various photos from this walk before but β well, let’s let the photos speak for themselves. Hope you enjoy
The bus drops us at Hellington, and we never can resist yet another exploration of this wonderful old church πΌπ½ of all the photos I’ve taken here, this one I like best. It has a Renaissance feel to the view. And old porches like this are rare
A little used lane leads us to the common πΌπ½β¬ oddities to be viewed along the way
The common, looking ahead πΌ and π½ looking back once we’ve crossed a field β¬ Why none taken in between? I clicked a few flowers and butterflies, but generally, with it so wet underfoot all focus was for staying dry and upright!
Wheatfen is a wetland nature reserve, part of the Norfolk Broads πΌ we sit on a thoughtfully provided bench to eat our lunch β¬π½ before making our way down to the River Yare β sails seen beyond the reeds
Wetlands can be very wet, and in places dangerous. A boardwalk allows access to oft-flooded areas π½
Then the walk has to be reversed to catch a bus home

What a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon. So full of history- and stories…..

It’s one of my (many) favourites. But whether I’ll return again I cannot say. Depends on whether I regain leg-strength and stamina. I’m working on that. Cos it’s quite a long walk, although that’s not obvious from these views

Well take it easy and work your way up to it slowly! Please!

Legs were so much better on Thursday’s walk. Could barely hobble around the house on Friday. Oops, might have overdone it. But I’m definitely regaining the stamina. At last!

It is a wetland area, and it was in June, before the heat of summer seared everything to a crispy brown

I think they start to green again now?

It’s still very dry everywhere. We’ve had brief showers, we’ve not had rain. The rivers are running low. We’re in East Anglia, sometimes likened to a desert, climate-wise. And yet we have the extensive wetlands (former swamps) of the Broads

Itβs the changing climate

No, it’s not unusual here. I remember several summers of water being delivered to us a tanker, and it’s nothing unusual to have water rationing. We are a very dry region

Oh I see. When we were living in Islamabad, our capital- we also used to have shortages of clean water in certain areas.
