Let’s move the snarl!
Sometimes bypasses do relieve congestion; other times they just move it. I’ve seen both.
One of the more successful was a four-lane bypass with ramps, avoiding a heavily-trafficked two-lane highway with many driveways along it.
Probably the least successful was a bypass around a small city I lived in. Doubled the lanes, but hit so many intersections with traffic lights, it didn’t gain anyone any time

From my experience the congestion occurs at the feeder roads, to get on or off that bypass. Recently sat on a bus for 2 hours because of an accident at one such junction. Standstill, tailback, everyone late for work. I just felt for the people involved in the accident

Some feeder roads in the Los Angeles area actually have stop lights on the ramps to manage the congestion.

I can understand that. We have lights on some of them in the Norwich area, too

It’s such a relief when the authorities take such measures

It can take a lot of the traffic out of town centres. But then the traders say it’s taking passing trade away. But how when if you’re looking to buy, you can still go into town

I love that you did not go the obvious route (see what I did there?) 😉

Excellent, Dale. Actually, I started with bypass, thinking of heart operation. But it then went its own sweet way!

Haha! Either way, I’ve no doubt it would have been perfect

Truth, I was composing it on the bus, which might explain the bypass, but also, while the bus waited at a hospital busstop

I love that we can write on our phones. Bits shit out of that little spiral-bound notebook I used to carry in my bag and the pen that always leaked ink

Yes! And sometimes, when walking, if an idea hits, I actually record myself. I still have a notebook and pen in my camera bag, just in case 🙂 Course, the pen has to be checked now and again because more than once, the ink was not flowing, shall we say.
