This early in the year we’re pleased to find colour of any kind. Enjoy these colour splashes from our walk on 4th March 2025
Snowdrops line the country lanes
Daffodils, but obviously garden escapees
Leaves can turn such unlikely colours
Honeysuckle is always early with its soft-green leaves
And even the deer provide welcome colour
The blackthorn (which I’m assuming this is) is very late blooming this year. Held at bay by the frigid east winds?
Hidden amongst the grasses by the roadside, the blue flowers of speedwell and the purple of red-deadnettle, two little gems
That’s all for now folks. Hope you enjoyed

What is the furry looking one in the last picture?

That’s a red deadnettle. A member of the mint family

Ok was the brave soul that tasted that to see if it tasted like mint I wonder?

It’s the structural elements that help fo name it, not its taste. Although it’s sister, the white deadnettle has deliciously sweet flowers

It looks more like nettle, and I guess people eat nettles, so I don’t know why it struck me as so odd.

But it’s not related to our stinging nettles

Thank you, Sadje. Spring is getting a hold now, though it’s still very early days

You have a prolonged spring so enjoy it

That’s true. Maybe because it starts so early, we believe it should move along at more of a pace

Yes, our spring season is quite short and in few weeks, summer will start

That always is a beautiful walk. Although there weren’t so many flowers this year. The freezing winds we’ve had here in the east has held much at bay

I don’t doubt that at all. And you always manage to find something lovely to share
