With all this rain
On fertile clay that, oops, doesn’t drain
We need our galoshes
As our feet slip and sloshes
Through mud that adheres to the soles of our shoes
Raising our height by at least six inches
Careful how she goes!
But we’re not complaining
Just cos it’s been raining
The situation isn’t really dire
Just a bit of a quagmire

At times the mud was sucking hard on my shoes. I thought I’d lose them, once or twice. Good exercise for the calves and thighs!

I do have a hiking pole, though that’s only been this past year. And I quickly discovered it’s not a good idea to rely on it

Thank you, Andrea. That was the toughest walk, six miles and almost all of it through thick sticky mud, an effort to remain upright at times, and it clogs the cleats on the boots. But my socks were dry when I got home
