He selected his toughest gear
Packed into his chest, some to wear
His chest upon his shoulder slung
Then down that hillside to the staithe he run
The ship was waiting
Slipping ropes
Soon departing
When with a nimble-footed leap
He was aboard and taken his seat
Amongst his former foe
A viking for to go

Well, I had to look staithe up- so there’s that.
Brilliant write. No proper Viking would refuse to board simple because his slated enemy was on board.
Loved it!

Thank you. As a former Viking ‘hot spot’, we have lots of staithes

We have high density of Viking placenames. Plus in one small area high concentration of DNA shared with former Viking settlement in Orkney. And Norwich is a Viking settlement although Saxons had dug a toehold there first. I love local history

The actual history, or that I know it? It intrigues me. I like to know as much as possible about where I live, and walk, and especially walk the camera
