Woe is me
I’m lost at sea
In nine-hundred-thirty-three
I’d thought: a Viking’s life for me
I’ll head out north
For Iceland, and that vicinity
But I’m not Viking born and bred
I can’t navigate, I’ve not the knowledge in my head
How they do it’s a mystery
To me
50 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Vicinity

North/south/east/west
Simple navigation test
But travel’s just a platitude
With longitude and latitude
Somewhere somewhere else but here
Everything seems just too near
Travel, travel, all you can
End up where you first began
And to your shock at last you’ve found
The Earth’s not flat, it’s round and round.

For whatever reason I made the assumption that the challenge was about the points of a compass. Dumb, eh?
So I had to have a second go ….
Looking to the heavens
For the holy trinity
No sign of my salvation
In that vicinity
Unsure of the status
Of my own divinity
As I’m staring down the blackness
Out towards infinity
Left the bible reading
Lost my virginity
God, it seems that you and I
Have no affinity

Like this. My first thought was to play on divinity/vicinity but nothing was happening

We’ve lost the skills. Yet 50,000 years ago humans were navigating their way from Indonesia to Australia. Incredible.

Very true. They used the stars and the sun’s position to find their way

You’re not the only one lost! I hope you get rescued!

Thank you. I’m not at all sure I’d be much use at sea without a compass and preferably GPS

Great fun Crispina, I’d be no good at navigating either!

I might manage it by stars and sun. But in cloudy weather, I’d be up the proverbial creek without a paddle!
