It’s something I’ve never really understood. Cats really have very few facial expressions. Yet they can convey so many feelings with the few they have (he says as the household cat looks inquiringly at him).

Which is more or less what I just said to Dale. I think it’s all in the eyes… theirs and ours. We have evolved to be acutely aware of emotion shown in the face/eyes
