I was gobsmacked when I saw it. I was looking for Amanit muscaria; this is a close relative. And although we only found two ‘eggs’ there were looked full-opened and i the stages in between.

Wow! How far apart were the photos taken?

Same days, within an hour. But that’s three different fungi. It’s rare to catch the ‘egg’ hatching. A little less rare to find the juvenile, but fairly common to find the adult. We found loads of those that day
