Humpty Dumpty, we’ve all heard of him,
Sat on a wall to tipple his gin,
Fell off it backward and cracked his head.
Altogether a very bad egg!

Did the graphic inspire the rhyme, or the other way ’round?

The rhyme came first – while washing up. I then hunted through a CD of clip-art. On this occasion I only combined a few elements. The one I did for St George took considerable alteration and then combination.

Funny reinterpretation of the rhyme! It inspired me to look up the origins of Humpty Dumpty, and I ran across this site, listing several. Not the most scholarly version, but fun anyway.

Ah yes, the cannon used in the Civil War. I think I prefer my Humpty with his bottle of gin. 🙂

Thank you, Joy. I have a thing about changing words to nursery rhymes. It used to keep the kids amused, way back in the day. I think my father used to do the same. and his mother too.

I enjoy doing that myself! Or to any songs, really. I sing to my cat all the time, especially when I’m trying to get her to eat, and it’s funny how many songs can be repurposed for that context.

Agreed. When we’re out walking, my daughter will say something, and I’ll riff on it, the words getting more and more ridiculous. Strange how quickly we can think into verse — if the ‘tune’ is already given

I always think I’ll remember the words I make up, but I never do. Then the next time, I again think I’ll remember them. Apparently I never learn, lol!

When I first started the blog I made a point of writing them down. Though generally I tweak the rhyme before committing it to blog
