6th October 2026 and summer doesn’t want to leave us. No autumnal mists. No showers to leave picture-perfect droplets on the branches. So no waterproof shoes required on today’s walk. We’re hopping a bus to south of the border, to visit two woodlands, both community managed nature reserves. Enjoy…
๐ผ The sun streams over a meadow next to the woodland gate and I realise today is going to be a day of dancing with lightย ๐ฝ And the trees are happy to see us. Look, almost bending over backwards!
๐ผ Strong sunlight creates crazy shadows… ๐ฝ and lights the way ahead in a most inviting way
๐ผ Skeletal trees with an August sky…in Octoberย ๐ฝ The ‘gardeners’ corner
๐ผ Both the horse and the sweet chestnut trees are usually first to change their leaves. But not this one!ย ๐ฝ Photo taken because, look, a splash of autumnal colour!
๐ผ This first of the two woodlands is, to my mind, over-managed, with paths definedย ๐ฝ The second woodland offers this one seat. It overlooks a pool, now rather short on water, and you need climb to reach it (the seat, not the pool!)
๐ผ Finally, evidence of the seasons changing!ย ๐ฝ But only if you look down…
๐ผ There are several hug-worthy beech trees in this woodland. If you don’t mind getting scratched by the holly ๐ฝ
Alas, this is all I have for you today. Don’t forget to catch Tuesday Treats.
Hope you enjoyed

These are all so beautiful and all deserving of a big hug ๐ค

I thoroughly enjoyed the trees! Most of the trees have green leaves, though, even though we’re on October. Awesome colorful leaves when looking down, though. And look, the tree bending backwards has a little bit of moss on its back. ๐ณ
Thank you so much for sharing them!

Our native trees tend to be late changing colour. But this year, it feels like they’re extra late. Maybe that’s more subjective than real

They’re indeed extra late. Leaves started turning orange at the bottom of the condominium, but most of the leaves are still yellow.
