26th September 2026 and we’re out with the cameras again. The walk isn’t that long (4 miles) but with the increasingly unpredictable weather I feel it wisest to post the photos from certain walks in two parts. Part One: the sun is shining, there’s a slight breeze, the air is warm, let’s go…
This being a Saturday, we decide to avoid the hectic buzz of Marriott’s Way where it starts in Norwich and join it at a quieter place though still within the city bounds. And so we have a gentle, peaceful start through πΌ Beech trees and π½ crazy waving Horse Chestnuts that look like auditions for Halloween!
πΌ No matter where you join the Way, if it’s the Norwich half you’ll cross the river Wensum several times. Here’s our first crossing π½
πΌ Years back, before the Way was tidied and the land mostly drained, it then was kinda swampy. Yes, I remember that. Now it’s a pleasant, dry-footed woodlandΒ π½ β¬
πΌ Silver Birch have colonised what once was rubbish-strewn wasteland π½ While trees have sprung up where walkers have thrown away their half-munched apples, to now bear fruit
πΌ Our second river crossingΒ π½ and a Way marker, formed from former train-tracks. Both sights are telling us we’re close to the city boundary. And it’s time to leave the rest of the pics till next week.
Hope you enjoyed this Part One. As you see, we might be away from summer now, but autumn hasn’t yet come.

I really did enjoy! π The river looks awesome, and the crazy waving Horse Chestnuts really do look like it’s auditioning for Halloween. The woodland also looks pleasant. Looking forward for more next week. βΊοΈ

One of our regular walks, as it was back in the 1980s, before we moved from there. I used to take my kids for walks along there on Sunday afternoons. It is somewhat changed, now
