The waves toss themselves against the shore
Clutch and tear at anything there
Tumble the stones
Wrench at the shells
Batter the rocks
Like a starving child with fingers that grasp
Edible, inedible, what does it matter
Every last mark those waves must erase
Footprints of bird
Of man, woman, child and dog
Until all is planed to a primordial plain
The strand walker walking there
Looks at the pristine sand and wonders
How to leave a mark on this world
When the waves always wash it away

What a beautiful haunting piece , I love how you use the imagery of the sea to explore themes of impermanence, time and our desire for legacy🩷

As I’ve just said to Nancy, these are the thoughts that do haunt my mind as I walk the shore. They’ve been the inspiration of several poems. It can’t be helped when you watch it in action

It’s something that often plays in my mind when I’m walking on a newly scoured shore–which with where I live, isn’t that infrequent

It really paints a picture, love this. And reflects my own thoughts about the sea too.
The first thing that came to mind was Stephen Spender’s “Seascape”.
