Shunamn tapped his fingers
Each one turned down as he counted
It was the Alsime way
Detah snorted
The granary’s way was quicker
Easier
Huh, an abacus would have been even easier and quicker
But Detah lived in the Western Bronze Age
No contact with the Far Eastern Cultures

Although I have to say, while the abacus as we know it might not have been used that early in the west, using pebbles in marked columns almost certainly was. But only 50 words to play with!

Thank you, Willow. I am most interested in early means of calculations. All those ancient stone circles!

I’ve speculated that if they used a counting base of 7 (we use 10) they could quite easily work with pi.

One problem though. While you can download an ebook/epub from WP, you can’t upload it! Therefore it has to be a pdf. Or the reader must send me their email address so I can email the pub file, and that will carry a delay. Unless I can find a way around it. Plenty of time to find the solution

Thank you. Still working on it but I’ll get there. It’s not exactly a short story

A clever and intriguing prompt response. The contrast between cultures, ideas, and ways of thinking adds depth, and the mention of the abacus ties it together in a smart, subtle way.
