Alone at night I want to write
To pen the perfect prose
To express my deepest hidden feelings
Even if it’s only to recite them to the bedroom ceiling
I want to speak of that one
Yes, that one
The one who woke me
The one with whom I had so much fun
Despite…maybe…because of the rules in force when that begun
Rules that forbade our meeting
Rules that in retrospect seem so fleeting
The one with whom I’m forever entangled
But how to find that perfect angle
How to channel that magister, Tolkien
And become a fellow Inkling
99 words written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Inkling

Rules are meant to be broken.

Brilliant – you had me going there- then shifting romantic entanglement to a desire for literary entanglement with Tolkien and the Inklings was stroke of genius- I had forgotten about the Inklings it would have been great fun I think hanging out with Tolkien and CS Lewis 👏😀

It wasn’t easy writing, but I think I pulled it together in the end

Nicely done, Crispina. Great (and unexpected) use of the prompt word. 🙂

Brilliant and original use of the term, Crispina. Wonderful writing. I read it twice and then a third time. It got better and better.

Thank you, Dale. I did take my time in writing it, although I’d planned it out while walking home from shop

It shows you didn’t write willy-nilly. Excellent.

I admit, sometimes my take on these prompts do roll off my head as I’m walking along. Not entirely willy-nilly, usually there’s a deeper prompt at play

I get it – often works that way for me, too.

You definitely pulled it together. There’s a lot to like here, including the lead up and the twist. Brava!

Thank you. It began as two thoughts, the one that begins it and the one that ends it
