An odd collection of photos from our walk on 4th March 2026. Enjoy
πΌ Flowering currant, flowering
πΌ Alder with last year’s fruits (cones) alongside male (yellow catkins) and female (pink catkins) flowers, a rare treat to see close enough in good light for the photo π½ Pussy willow
πΌ Flowers with leaves, this must be cherry-plumsΒ π½β¬
π½ Daffs. Everywhere, even amongst the reeds
πΌ The reedmace are losing their fluffy seed-carriers, a joy for the birds to use in their nestsΒ π½ Reeds showing last year’s flowers. The new ones will show up as deep purple
π½ A shot that’s reminiscent of the old boatyards
Birds πΌ Immature gullΒ π½ Party of widgeon β¬ A pheasant in a willow tree
π½ I don’t know why that cube is there. Maybe as a counterpoint to the ball atop the brick column? All very geometric!
Hope you enjoyed.

I’ve always had a soft spot for pussy willows. As a child, I remember my mother had a vase of dried pussy willows and silver dollar plants in her bedroom; they looked so fragile yet elegant to me.

Although we often find pussy willow in display even before Christmas (in sheltered places) yet for me it remains the marker of Spring

Like Nancy I loved the pussy willows! We have them here, but it has been a good long while since I have seen any- I am going to have to make the search a part of my summer focus!

Summer? But then you have such different seasons to us with you half-year of winter. Good luck in finding them. Try damp soggy places

We still have 6 feet of snow on the ground and overnight temperatures in the negatives- so yes here we have to wait for anything beautiful in the way of flowers- or in this case pussy willows.

Jodi, my parent’s had off-white French provincial furniture in their bedroom. Uber fancy with a cream-colored rug. The vase with pussy willows and silver dollars sat on a mirrored tray with gold filigree on the dresser. I thought it was a magical centerpiece. We have their furniture now, but had it stained mahogany …. more our style.

I have one piece that used to be Frech Provincial- a chest of drawers/ hutch combination. I antiqued it and it is still lovely!

I’m always delighted to capture the birds, even if they’re not always in sharp focus
