Sunday Picture Post: Along The Old Line

In the aftermath of high winds, 16th September 2025 starts dull and blustery. But not to be deterred, we bus into Norwich and out again – to Attlebridge where we join Marriott’s Way, thence heading back to Norwich. Please join us (but beware of falling nuts!)

πŸ”Ό We’re glad of the shelter of the trees (though acorns keep falling on our heads) πŸ”½ Beyond those trees the day looks gloomy

Relics of Marriott’s Way’s former train days are found in abundance along this stretch πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ Being sheltered, the trees along here are slow to turn colour and lose their leaves

Some people seek privacy… πŸ”½

I did once count the number of bridges, overs and unders, along the length of this route, but I didn’t make a note, let’s just say loads πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ and every one of those bridges call to my camera

We came to a place with evidence of much tree-felling πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ but do not cry, these are working plantations, the broadleaf trees remain (beeches and, as evidenced by the scatter of husks, chestnuts)

Evidence of its railway days πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ a few of the rails when lifted were worked into fanciful shapes and stationed at one mile intervals along the Way

Recent road construction have resulted in a ‘pedestrian flyover’ for we walkers and cyclists πŸ”Ό

πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ Yet another ‘under’ bridge. As we near Norwich the graffiti gets more colourful (and the sky gets brighter!) This is our last bridge for today. We break away soon after this to catch a bus back to Norwich

Just as we’re about to leave the route, another of those reminders of this trail’s former days πŸ”½

Hope you enjoyed our walk. Don’t forget Tuesday Treats for additional photos (of nuts and flowers) and this week we again have enough photos for a Friday Fungi post

WoW! This was a particularly visually enticing day! What can you tell me about that 44 marker?

That did my head in! I walked from the Garden Centre road back to Lenwade one year when it snowed and I was in need of hay for the guinea pigs – nothing much was running, I didn’t want to dig my car out, but my neighbour was going in his 4×4 and gave us all lifts. I also used to walk from Thorpe Marriott down to Tescos. I think that flyover picture is in the Thorpe Marriott bit I never walked!

If I match up one of the ones we have in common, I’ll use that regardless of your numbering πŸ™‚ Or in addition to – that would be better.
