As usual, a mostly-floral miscellany of photos taken during our walk on 8th July 2025. Enjoy
Meadowsweet, which was used in brewing before the Dutch hopped the North Sea to bring us hops! 🔼🔽 Raspberries grow naturally wild in our woodlands
Here’s a berry not ever to be eaten, even when ripe: Black Bryony 🔽
Yea, I know I grow this in my garden, but I can’t resist it when I see it in its natural habitat. Tutsan 🔼🔽
Out of place it’s a gardeners’ bane. But here 🔼 so beautiful
I’m happy not to have any of these in my garden 🔼 bindweed and hemlock 🔽 and bittersweet with cleavers aka goosegrass
This year this one has appeared in my garden 🔽 great willow herb
Two wetland favourites branched burr-reed 🔼🔽 and purple loosestrife
And finally 🔽 a native snail, slowly crossing the dry trampled grasses
Hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check on Friday Fliers

These are glorious Crispina better than Kew or the Eden project to my mind. 💜💜💜

Thank you. And all entirely where nature put them. Yes, it is a managed environment is as much as the water channels are concerned, and the woodland is kept ‘safe’ (don’t want rotten trees crashing down on us) but then all the loppings are left in place.

Great shots Crispina. You not only take great photos but know a lot about the local flora too.

Thank you. And you know how it is, when you enjoy a subject you’re more inclined to delve deep. Though I am no expert

I don’t think I ever remember you posting grapes before? If you have maybe I was on hiatus.

They’re not grapes. They’re the very poisonous and unripe berries of black bryony. When ripe, they bear all the flashy colours of a set of traffic lights

No wonder 🤔. I had never heard of that.

Usually I feature photos of them in late summer when the berries are bright

Nature is funny: Let’s make the flowers so pretty that the people won’t notice just how we are taking over their hedges with blooms of white, purple and yellow…
Lovely photos, Crispina.

I think those flowers were here before we were! But yes, sometimes the prettiest flowers are the ones we regard as invasive weeds. Weed, definition: A plant growing where we don’t want it to grow

I agree. And frankly, there are a few “weeds” I really love.

Some of those ‘weeds’ have pride of place in my garden. Though some are not!
