How old is this rose bush? Probably as old as the garden, and that’s as old as me. When I moved here in 2021, it was lost amidst a stifling bed of nettles. I’m so pleased to see not only has it survived but now is flourishing.

So beautiful! I’m glad it’s still blooming for so many years!

You’d not believe its woeful state when I moved here, summer 2021. Neglected for at least 10 years, maybe more. I was delighted the first time it gave me just a solitary bloom. But this year… wow, it’s really going for it

I think it might be Oklahoma. It certainly looks right as its buds are just about to open

Yet just before it unfurls the barely visible petals appear black

wow my roses are often displaying a lighter or darker shade before opening but never black.💜

I worried when I first saw them. But it’s how I identified them. Apparently, that’s how Oklahoma begins to open…or at least the photos I found of it

And I’ve just had to deadhead them. In doing so, I very much shortened those towering stalks
