Sunday Picture Post: Lucy’s Meadow

12th May 2025, we hop aboard a bus into Norwich then another out to Dereham, the approximate centre of the county. We’re heading for Lucy’s Meadow, a nature reserve that nestles between the town of Dereham and village of Scarning. Please join us. It’s going to be a blistering day!

St Nicholas church as seen πŸ”Ό front-on from the road and πŸ”½ glimpsed through a gate to the churchyard. Later, we’ll seek shelter here from the sun but as yet though the sun is bright it isn’t fierce

We’re typical Brits. When the sun comes out we look for the shade of trees πŸ”ΌπŸ”½

Open fenland πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ and a neighbouring garden just visible through the trees beautifully blue with forget-me-nots

By definition, fenland is wet. But a certain level of drainage is accomplished with these streams and canals πŸ”ΌπŸ”½

As the heat ramps up we head for the woods. πŸ”ΌπŸ”½ It’s not only the heat but the sun at that angle doesn’t make for ease of photography. I need a polarising lens; I keep promising myself to buy one but that’s as far as it gets

A look back at the woods as we follow a path alongside another drainage channel πŸ”Ό And can’t you tell it’s May! πŸ”½

Now it’s back to the town, via the coolth of the church

Hope you enjoyed. More photos from this walk on Tuesday when, I promise, there’ll be more colour!

Trail to your hearts content! I am vicariously jealous of the heat, but I know I will be hiding from it myself when our warm week or two finally hits come Junie-sh…

  4. The forget-me-nots are lovely and I’m always interested in fenland landscapes – I’ve never been but always think of them as very atmospheric.
