11th November 2024, we’re heading out to Fritton Woods, aka Waveney Forest, which requires an approximate 2 mile walk along the aptly named, unmetalled, Sandy Lane. This autumn has been dry, so no deep puddles to drench our feet. Enjoy…
The lane takes us first through farmland one side and the common, the other side. We hear those pigs before we see them. Love to see them reared outdoors
The trees are really turning colour now…
And now it’s a golf course one side and still the common on the other
To me, the epitome of this walk!
Ancient oaks clinging to banks worn into a hollow-way by centuries of rain and feet
And all too soon we’re at the forest. There’s been much felling over recent years with fears of gravel-quarrying this heathland. But that project fell through (phew, so glad) and the trees are reclaiming the land. But more of that next week.
Hope you enjoyed

Oh those colours are so lovely! It’s great to get a second dose, so to speak as ours are pretty much done with the exception of a few trees protected from the wind. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Ours start turning much later than yours, and we’ve still a way to go, mostly the oaks. Though with this weekend’s winds (Storm Bert) many trees will be stripped of leaves too

Oh, I know. It’s great because it’s an extension for us to see yours! Storms do have a way of moving things along, don’t they?

I have just swept up the leaves and ‘keys’ stripped off the sycamore that overhangs my garden by this weekend’s Storm Bert

I just noticed I have another bunch of leaves on the side of the house. I thought I was finished!

I spent yesterday sweeping up leaves and ‘keys’. I hope that’s the last!

I’m still sweeping, but the rate of accumulation has decreased

Last night I got home and knew I had to put my bags of leaves out for pick up this morning. I looked in the passageway towards the back yard and raked them up, added them to the bucket and boom! Anything else will have to stay as they have no more pick up until the spring.

I managed a zoomed in distant shot of a saddled back this week, field reared, sharing her compound with truly free-range chickens. I’m lucky that our local farmers all believe in traditional farming methods
